I have just been told by my very frendly local garage that the Gearbox in my N plate V6 auto is US.

It Judders when pulling away under any heavy load, I thought it may have been something simple  But no.

My local cannot or will not help me with aquirering of fitting a recon box and suggested getting a mortgage and going to the local Ford dealership. ^_^

The anoying thing is I was hoping to sell the old girl this month and I only wanted

That is the other option.

It seems a shame specially as I have just put a years tax on it.

The garage when I picked up the car raved over how good it is to drive in spite of the gearbox, he was well impressed with the condition etc. ^_^

Being on the Isle of Wight, there is a limited market for breaking a car, as it is still a runner taxed and tested it would be worth something to anyone who wants to take it of my hands to break it. I can quite easily get it to Portsmouth, and having just been to Cornwall and back in it (over 900 miles), I know it is drivable.

I have never used E-bay so I will have to think on that.

I have not as yet got a second opinion, I only got the news today from my local garage, I did contact a gearbox specialist in Cowes but he was off sick so could not help.

Having read many of the posts on this site, I am thinking of having a go at changing the ATF fluid maybe that will cure the problem. 12 year old oil cannot be up to the task, what has stumped me is the "sealed for life" statement that is in the haynes manual. When I had the car serviced I asked that the ATF fluid was changed, the garage came back and said it could not be done as it is sealed.

So I hope you can understand my confusion, how can something be sealed for life? and what is life? 100k miles, 50k miles, it is Ford perhaps 5k miles is life

For everything that has been fixed so far I have been told "its a Ford thing" ^_^

I dont think that I can tackle the task of changing oil myself so I am going to have to find a garage that will do the job for me, watch this space.

Have now changed the ATF, what came out was black and burnt smelling.

Unfortunatly it has not solved the problem, the Juddering is still there, now also there is a delay between applying the gas and the vehicle moving off.

Is this the clutch? and is it worth it getting it repaired/replaced?
