Can anybody help.

Ive been reading so much about the Vag-Com and i think that this might be a good thing to have.

Can anybody tell me the best place to get the software and what exactly i would need for a mk2 "early 02" 2.3 auto.

And how much is it likely to cost me.

Ive been looking on google but im getting a bit confussed as to waht to look for.

Cheers Danny

Danny,

I recently looked into this also, and after posting a similar question here I purchased the VAG-COM compatible cable below.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-Vag-Com-Compatib...1QQcmdZViewItem

I have nothing to do with this seller, other than being a happy customer.

I then downloaded the drivers for the cable from the site below for the cable.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/alpha-bid/Manuals...-Downloads.html

This presents to the Windows system as another Com Port (COM4 on my system)

Then downloaded the VAG-COM 409.1 from Ross-tech.net (Free version, some limited functionality)

http://www.ross-tech.net/vag-com/download/...lease4091us.exe

installed and choose the serial port as specified above. (after connecting to Galaxy Diag Port first)

From then I followed the online manual from VAG-COM to learn how to use it.

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/tour/main_screen.html

I'll probably register VAG-COM soon as I'd like to dabble with the full functionality, but for what I needed to use it for initially it worked perfectly (Testing MAF).

Hope that helps, there are lots of other cables available on Ebay as well as one from ROSS-TECH itself, but I chose this one because it was cheap ! and another user on here had also purchased the same cable.

Hi

Can you put up a picture of the diagnostic socket you have on your car

The socket is the same as yours............under the front ashtray...remove it completly.

Do these work on the galaxy? as it said the cable is only for the VW

Your car is mainly VW...the engine is a Ford

theres a chap on ebay sells the cable with a cd containing lots of the ross tech software no need to download from internet site, also has lots of other things on disc like radio codes and dash resetting if you can sort out how to use it around

this seem the right thread to ask in....

I have one of these ebay link that I got cheap....

however I have a Ford gal 2.3. auto and this cable works great with Vagcom, bought up and cleared some autobox faults, which is why I bought it.

however here is the question I have the MIL light showning and want to know what other software can I use to talk to the engine obd using the same cable.

I have tried scantool and diagnose and both dont seem to want to communicate with the car, even when using hyperteminal.

I have Vag-Com and a 2.3 gal and as mentioned the engine is not VW so will not give you fault codes, I have had the engine light come on done a full test and reset the faults by clearing the fault list in Vag com and after a long drive the light goes out btw if yours is an 02 then the socket is under the steering wheel, there are other programs that will work but are many more
