danyoda1 Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 hi everyone, i've got a mk1 gal vr6 ghia x the climate control has recently stopped blowing cold air on inspection, it wasn't engaging the pulley to spin the pump near the alternatorfuse 27 had blown, which i replaced. the car started and a couple of seconds later when the pump normally engaged the fuse popped again. i tried a couple of times but it just kept popping at the same time. so i disconnected the multiplug to the pump, replaced the fuse and it didn't pop. reconnect the multiplug and pop goes another fuse! with the engine off, it is easy enough to spin the centre of the pully, there is resistance but not too much, so i can't imagine that the pump is stuck. any ideas. don't really want to swap the pump if that isn't the problem but i think it is pointing that way..... seatkid Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Der electromagneticisher clutch ist kaput....... New compressor required (although I read somewhere that the clutch can be refurbished/replaced) Quote
tim-spam Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 On mine, the clutch unit can be replaced separately - are the Mk 1's different? Quote

gn8691 Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 If you have a multimeter you could test the resistance of the clutch coil. It should be around 3 to 4 ohms. If its blowing fuses then its probably breaking down and shorting to earth. Quote
