Hi

 

I hope you can help me.

I bought a galaxy last week, and I have had a few problems with it, it is going back for the work to be done under warranty on TUesday.

 

Its a 2001 19.tdi Zetec Auto

 

Its been fine since I have had it, however this orning the central door locking wont open the car, and it wont start, flat battery it seems as everything like the fan and windows are really slow

 

I have got the battery on charge now, but I am concerene something is causing this drain? I didnt leave anything on!

 

The only thing I can think that might have triggered something is, the parking sensors have never worked at all no beeps nothing, On cleaning the car yesterday underneath the passenger seat was lots of spilt drinks I think , it absolutley stunk!! I gave it a really good clean out with some cleaner.

 

This morning I thought maybe I have broken somehting in there, I took the black box out, and pulled the PCB out of the housing. It is totally corroded. what is this box? is it the parking sensor box? and could this be the cause of my batterydrain?

 

ANy help would be great, as I said its back with the dealer on Tuesday, but I need ot be able to get to work in the morning!!

sounds like the car has had a flooded passenger footwell...common fault.the hose for the rear windscreen wiper is situated along the trim passenger side, it can split/break there and the water will flood the passenger footwell.if it gets into that black box (ECU) it will corrode unless dried out.

 

I would ask the peeps who look at it to replace the parking sensors..along with sorting out everything else.

as mum says,sounds like the modules kaput,put everything back together deny all knowledge of trying to fix it yourself and TELL THEM TO SORT IT or you will reject the car under sale of goods act,arnt you glad youve got warranty other wise could cost a tidy few pennys to get it sorted.

THINK SO as theres no way of checking whether the booster heater works because of the temperature now, will have to wait until the winters here,(DID SAY TO THEM ABOUT IT)POLITLEY LOL but they had to replace the climate control etc etc,but as my warranty doesnt run out until next year im not really boverd. i think they said through there tears it cost about

Is it the ECU under the seat then? I thought it was the parking sensor unit as it is attached to a small speaker?

 

I have had the car on charge all day and it now starts and runs fine, do you think it is the ecu draining the battery then?

I am sure there is a thread somewhere that someone packed some ice around the temperature sensor to test the booster heater ( or possibly shorted it out to achieve the same ).

 

thanx for that big kev,but to be honest ill leave till winter,then lose my rag with the dealers yet again(thats if nothing else goes wrong with it b4 then)and let them sort it,

Booster heater can be tested by shorting out its temperature sensor which is located near the pollen filter. Apparently a mini fuse is a perfect fit for the connector. With the engine cold the heater will start after you start the engine.

 

Here's one I photographed earlier.... or at least it would be if GTEUK had'nt removed the UPLOAD option!!!!

When I click on upload.jpg, or the preview image in the "Last 10 Posts [ In reverse order ]" I get.....

try a different skin SK..ok..for amusement purposes..try the mumof4 special.as it is def on there..in the attachments bit on the right hand side.

Hmm..i tried viewing one of my own attachments and got told i didnt have permission!!..tried viewing it in my control panel!!..very odd........thing is though..i can see it in the thread..but when i click on it to enlarge it..i cant view it as i dont have permission or are not logged in...flip...but i can upload images though.

umm odd - I can see my enlarged attachment (oooo err) and all other pictures I've looked at - I notice from the piccy big_kev you are using the default skin (bottom left of the page) do you get the same if you change to 'Silver light blue' which is the one I use (and from comments before its the one glen was using)
