big_kev Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 The Cam belt is classed as a consumable and will need changing on a regular basis.Best if you can get one that has recently been changed ( with proof ! ), avoid one that is due for a change unless you can negotiate this into the price....cost of cambelt change is around Quote
slt Posted June 15, 2007 Author Report Posted June 15, 2007 Cheers big kev will check about cambelt when i have a look at the cars ,do you know interval years/miles ...? maf change on fords in the past must be a comon thing to change Quote
mumof4 Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Flippin hell BK!!..where you get those prices for cam belt change from??..mine only cost Quote
big_kev Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Thought this was around the standard VW or Fraud's price. Quote
mumof4 Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 More than likely..but they charge upwards of 50/60 quid an hour for the luxury of working on your car!..i went to an independant garage.....same kit..same work..way less than half the price. Quote
big_kev Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 and I bet they do it properly as well..........never going back to Frauds Quote

El Dingo Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 It's worth noting that, depending on the vehicle, cam belts sometimes drive other ancilliaries - such as a diesel injector pump or a water pump, and there will also be a tensioner pulley and maybe a guide and/or idler pulley(s). If you want to be keep the initial cost down you could just change the belt, but, for example, a siezed water pump or idler pulley could wreck the belt and then possibly the engine. It's always worth asking just what the garage is replacing when getting a quote. Quote
