Rob-W Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Hi, I have a 1999 1.9tdi which has given us almost 149,000 trouble free miles, but the aircon recently failed. From what I have been reading here today we are definitely in the majority! I initially took the car along to Kwik Fit as they currently offer to recharge the system and if they don Quote
RADIOTWO Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Hi, I have a 1999 1.9tdi which has given us almost 149,000 trouble free miles, but the aircon recently failed. From what I have been reading here today we are definitely in the majority! I initially took the car along to Kwik Fit as they currently offer to recharge the system and if they don’t reduce your temperature by 10% or more you don’t pay a thing. They removed about 600g of coolant, flushed it and replaced about 1.2kg but still nothing. The pressure test was fine, but I didn’t pay and they told me it was the compressor and would cost around Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 One thing which may help - do the cooling fans come on when you switch the air con on? On mine I found that with low/no gas the power to the clutch is not available but the cooling fans do start up. If this is the case it would suggest that you should look for the pressure sensor switch if not your fault is probably further back in the chain Quote

Rob-W Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 If, as I suspect, it is a single air con system (standard fit) then they put too much refrigerant in! You are absolutely correct and this is excellent news! They have over-filled by 350g and I am hoping this will explain everything - thanks Kwik Fit. Anyway, it's going back in for a flush and refill tomorrow and this time they have promised to get it right. I'll report back and let you know how I get on. Best wishes. Rob Quote
gregers Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 might be worth getting some sort of guarantee in writing from them, that if the air con system goes tits up in the near future they will honour there cock up and repair it free of charge, surely putting to much in has pressurized the system and put undue stress on the components???? Rob-W Posted June 15, 2007 Author Report Posted June 15, 2007 They flushed the system and replaced 950g of coolant, but still nothing... I'm now off to the local dealer to pick up a replacement trinary switch and will keep my fingers crossed all the way back to the workshop. Rob Quote
installer69 Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Rob,did it work? I have exactly the same problem.Craig Quote
