Just a little advice on using the cruise control from my experience:

 

Set speed ............. A single quick press on the SET part of the rocker switch.

 

Increase speed .................... press and hold the RESUME or + part of the switch until desired speed reached

 

Reduce speed ................... press and hold the SET or - part of the switch until desired speed reached

 

To resume set speed .............. A single quick press on the RESUME part of the rocker switch.

 

To cancel all ........ select switch to off or touch the clutch or brake pedal

 

To set new speed whilst pressing + or - ............ release and repeat with a quick press of the SET button

 

All agree?

 

Nope and I think all the other MK1 owners will disagree as well.

 

Reduce speed ....turn off cruise control and reset it when at lower speed !

 

 

 

 

Hmmmm..says 30 in my handbook..thats for the Galaxy.....and mine was an 01 model...so why would the speed come down in later models?

 

That will be 30Kmph not mph, they work from around 20mph/30Kmph ( assuming your not doing 20mph and going uphill in 5th...we know who does that dont we.....)

Clarification - mine is a petrol Mk2 with Ford's vacuum CC system...

Mum, yours was a Mk2 diseasel, with a VW 'electronic' system.

Maybe that's why there's a difference?

I had a chance yesterday of trying the CC resume switch again and the way of increasing speed without using the accelerator, so when cruising I pressed the 'set' button on the end (I thought this was the right way) and this increased my cruising speed by about 3 to 4 mph every time. I tried to resume after braking but the car continued to slow so it's still not working.

 

Later in the day I was taking the family to mid Wales and thought the brake peddle was needing to be pressed harder to disengage the cruise control. Five minutes or so later I had quite a shock when trying to break from cruising again I found the brake peddle MUCH firmer than usual (almost didn't move at-all initially) and needed 2 very firm presses (which hardly slowed me at all) to disengage the cruise. By this time I was rather closer to the car in front than I felt confortable! I haven't tried it since.

 

Has anyone had similar experiences or know what might be the problem?

 

Should I risk trying it out again on a quiet road? I assume it would still disengage if I pressed the clutch or flicked the cruise switch off.

Bought a 53 Tdi 130 Galaxy 10 days ago and just returned from a week's holiday in Devon. Most of the time worrying about what it was that I had bought

 

1. Cruise control stopped working on the way down to Devon.

2. brake lights would not go out when arrived and switched and locked up car for the night.

3. Disengaged the battery for the night

4. Next morning I called the AA, who effected a temporary repair to the switch ( I think they stuck something to the end of it)

5. Fine for 4 days.

6. Next long drive however probelms got worse and accelerator would occasionally cut out. It always worked on a second press, usually by then in a lower gear.

7. Crawled home. Parked brake lights not on.

8. In the Morning brake lights on but car managed to start. Same problems with accelearator cutting out. Hard to climb hills except in firt gear.

9. Next evening went to bed - brake lights not on.

10. In the Morning brake lights back on. This time not so lucky - battery flat.

11. Called the AA again. They wanted to know why I had not taken the car back to a garage for a permanent fix. But then the fix had worked for 3 days.

12. AA man (not the same one) says this is a common problem. Does something, I do not know what

13. Manage to drive back to Hampshire with cruise control and accelerator working most of the time but having to lift up the brake pedal using the top of my foot under the pedal, every time I used the brake to reset the switch. Otherwise cruise would not work.

 

What I would like to know is :

 

A) Can this be fixed by a new brake pedal switch.

:P Is it nothing to do with the switch

 

Another thing I noticed is that a instrument panel warning light for a bulb always comes on for about a minute after start up and then goes off.

 

I include the detail to help others but i would like help myself as well.

bulb warning sounds normal - does it go out after brakes actuated and its tested those bulbs - for
