Just put me chip in, well at first thought there was no difference, then I read the very broken German to English translated insructions and tuned it in. WOW whata difference , still needs tweeking but bags more power and a little smoke! Got minr from Lightandchip-tuning on ebay Edited by drcrawey

www.chipboost.com can remap instead of chip it, 115 to 150 bhp.

what does this sentence mean in the ad? on e-bay.

Because the power increase is by much more than 25% the T-Box is not allowed in the street traffic, but has to be entered by the technical control for every particular case

who cares ? 25% more power for 46 quid . use it responsibly won't kill anyone ....enjoy its not scum drivin an impreza is it?

suzuki obviously does, and there is nothing wrong in wanting to know what something means.

Its called making sure you know what you are buying!

Dont want to bust your bubble,[25% extra power] but when you say it feels like its got more power

well it has, but that does not mean it got an extra 25% at the top. all thats happening is the

turbo will be spooling up earlier and with more boost, this will slowly drop of further up the rev range

"more smoke" in the short run fine, except now your exhaust will start to become clogged

as will your cat, given time and mileage the build up will see an emmissions failure at the mot

test, you egr valve will play up as it now gets more soot passed through it,making your engine

intself dirtier [wear]

So all in all not bad for under 50 quid........ Me i'd pay the 300 odd for a proper REMAP.....

Remapping and 'hot chipping':

You really have to ask yourselves why if it is so easy VW didn't do this from the start! To get more power from a 90PS, you will have to put more fuel and air in, which means increasing the boost pressure and opening the injectors for longer and/or increasing the fuel pressure. When you do this, you will almost certainly cause your turbo to go overspeed (they run at about 225,000rpm) and run far hotter than designed to. Most modern engines are set up to run close to the components limits on temperature as standard, as all manufacturers are after bragging rights regarding performance and fuel efficiency. A turbo that is just 50

It means its illegal for road use and a car fitted with this device needs to be certified individually (presumably this is in Germany)

I thought they did .......aren't the 150bhp and the 130bhp just the ordinary 115bhp engine that have been chipped ?

Posted

No.

For a start, the injectors are larger - a chipped 115 bhp physically can not get the quantity of fuel in in the correct time frame hence the (illegal) smoke that also loads up the oil with soot in a fraction of the normal service time. This is the main reason why the 130 and more so the 150 are lumpier and narrower power band than the 115. Remember the manufacturers have to manufacture vehicles that comply with emission rules for the life of the vehicle.

Lots of other things are different, including the head (iirc sodium filled valves, whatever they are), upgraded oil cooler etc etc all to cope with the extra heat output.

Most importantly, the braking system is upgraded.

There you go....me talking carp again.

Just a thought on the brakes......reading the thread about the ones one ebay.

No one seems to have mentioned the different types ?

most these chips work on one priciple, they tell the ecu that the engine temperature is cold thereby fooling the engine into running rich(the air /fuel mixture).

this will increase fuel consumption and long term affect engine life
