These are usually mounted in spoilers or on the rear window. Since these lamps are over and above the current legal requirements they are treated more leniently. For example, if a high level lamp is not working and you say it is broken some testers will fail you but if you say it is disconnected then as far as the law is concerned it is not a lamp checking whether it is broken or disconnected is beyond testers ability unless they stripped the car down so they have to pass you Radiotwo Quote
riversider Posted June 9, 2007 Author Report Posted June 9, 2007 hello RADIOTWO thanxs for the reply, firstly i put the old bulbs from the brake light into the number plate light as i was replacing them at the same time and they worked fine ,secondly the man in the mot test centre said that even though its on the fail list when i come back after rectifying all the other faults if i disconnect the connection to the high brake light he will pass it as its not connected up but i would prefer it to be working. The wire goes from the rear door down the rubber to the right hand side rear break light ,do you recommend that i replace this wire as maybe it is the cause? Wagomatic Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Riversider, Don't know if this is of any use or not, but on my 1998 2.3Ghia I found a break in both the 'supply' and earth cables to the High level brake light. Quote
riversider Posted July 1, 2007 Author Report Posted July 1, 2007 cheers for the help i sorted the problem out,i found one of the two small wires had broken in half(black+red,i think) this was located in the rubber thingy majig that is attached from the rear door to the car, thanks . Quote
big_kev Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Would advise to check all the cables ( behind the rubber thingy majig ) as usually there are several broken. Quote
