Buncers Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 Anyone else had this problem. The wiring going through the top of the tailgate to the rear electrics was made too short on my Galaxy causing most of the wires to pull themselves apart. Until I discovered the problem I had some really wierd electrical problems, as you can imagine. I have had to systematically splice longer bits of wire in - most unpleasant. Are the VW or Seats better built or do I have a lemon. Quote
Dave-G Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 ;) Er..I'm into my 3rd shalaxy, and ner come across this one mate ;) I'd feel inclined to wonder why someone had moved the loom and look for damage although you will see many problems on this forum, they are mostly minor niggles or missunderstandings..or even plain curiousity  That said, I usually buy about 18 months old(40% less Quote
seatkid Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 I too think its highly likely to have manufactured like that - wiring looms are assembled on jigs and would be identical in length. The problem would also have shown up early in the cars life. Is your car second hand and has it suffered accident damage? Ford/VW/Seats are built on the same lines (by the same people) as far as I know. Quote
Denis Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 Buncer, how many wires were broken? The wires to the high level brake light often break, I think thats a common one. But are you saying some of the others have as well? Strange. Quote
Buncers Posted January 9, 2004 Author Report Posted January 9, 2004 About 10 wires were stretched and broken. Rear lights, brake lights, wipers practically everything at the rear. I bought it second hand about 3 years ago, but only noticed the problem after about a year. I had an alarm fitted quite early on. Now you have raised my suspicions, I wander if the fitter messed it up. Quote
Nick Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 What year is you car? Mine is a '97 and I have had a number of wires go the same way you describe. There is no slack in the loom at all. I've used the in-line crimps that repair and add that little extra length. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I keep getting Spam Email that says I need another 3 inches. Quote

batteryboy Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 Same happened to me on my 99s Ghia Galaxy. I had to use butt ssplices and bits of wire to repair and extend. Quote
Guest Murdock Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 The same thing happened to my VW Sharan, I was on the verge of replacing the reverse light switch when my brother who is an MOT tester diagnosed a broken wire in the loom at the top of the tail gate, apparently this is a common fault on the VW golf. The only wire that was effected was the reverse light wire.I fixed this by removing the tailgate trim, routing the loom to remove the slack thus giving me enough wire to solder back together. Quote
