markne Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Hi, I'm looking at getting a galaxy - I've decided on a TDi - preferable a zetec but my only real requirement is that the central row hsa 3 3point belts. I thought this was standard from early 2001 (according to parkers) but two Y regs I have asked about both had lapbelts. When was this introduced? I assume the belt come out of the roof -is this correct? Finally - I'm looking at 60-80k mileage - should I be checking if timing belts etc have been changed? Cheers Mark Quote
mumof4 Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Topic moved to technical. I believe it was introduced late 2001....so some Y regs will have the lap belts and some will have the 3 point seat belt that comes down from the roof.Always check if the belts been changed..if they aint sure..then get it done yourself. markne Posted June 11, 2007 Author Report Posted June 11, 2007 Just looked at a 52 plate 1.9tdi with 39k on the clock. Everything looks right (including service history and last bill) apart from the steering wheel - took a friend who is a user car dealer with me and he thought it looked good too. It has worn a lot more than I would have expected is this normal? Thanks Quote
mumof4 Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 steering wheel may have been replaced..or it depends on how the person held the wheel whilst driving...dont forget steering wheels are used all the time in the car...is it a leather steering wheel? Check the pedals..do they look worn?some peeps when they clock cars..dont think of changing the pedals.look at the clutch and accelerator pedals..the little stub thingymebobs are what get worn..my old Gal was on 73k when she went..and the steering wheel looked ok..(leather)..and so did the peddles. Could be many reasons why the steering wheel is worn...if the service history milaege and the milaege on the car tot up..then it should be ok....steering wheels can be replaced..you can always check with ford to see if they can bring up any work that has been carried out on the car since first reg...i know it can be done as i did it when i had probs with my steering. markne Posted June 12, 2007 Author Report Posted June 12, 2007 no it isn't leather (the mondeo its replacing has done >90k and the leather wheel is fine too). Everything else tots up - went ahead and bought it.. Test drove it on close to the hotest day so far this year so the aircon seems to work ok - not very strong is it? Cheers Quote

Cheers Try running the aircon on recirc after a few minutes and it should get colder, my mate has just bought a mondeo mk 2 and the aircon worked ok and he said it didn't seem as cold as my climate did, had a mess around with it the oyher day and put the aircon on normal then recirc and there was a marked improvement of the chill factor  Quote
