Hi

I am new to this site, in fact this is my first forum posting anywhere. I am hoping you lot can help me with a problem I am have with my mk1 V6 Galaxy

I bought the Galaxy last week and she is in immaculate condition inside and out but the engine has blown, timing chains have snapped (OUCH!!)

I am going to rebuild the engine myself but I have been having trouble finding the parts. I know it is the same engine as in the Sharon but even quoting the Sharon to suppliers it is proving difficult to locate the parts

(Why do you always seem to end up with some 17 year old behind the parts desk who dont one end of the spanner from the other!!!).

However using good old google I have managed to locate the parts I need but they are listed for a 1996 MK3 VOLKSWAGAN GOLF VR6 'AAA' engine. Will these fit the Galaxy V6 engine considering it's a VW lump? :(

Many thanks and looking forward to the response

hi supersoda,

I'm gonna start it off (and go out on a limb as always till the big boys get here).

Firstly welcome on board...

I think the VR6 engine is the same across the VW range... including the galaxy v6 mk1.

however I think I heard somewhere the differences are in the mounts only... ie: for different cars...

dunno...

Hi wolfie thanks for the info,

Unfortunatly the problem with my V6 engine is now much bigger then expected and is now classed as "uneconomical to repair". :)

I have managed to source a replacement engine but before I pay out hard earned cash on it I need some advice which I hope you lot can give ;)

The engine I have manged to find is from a 1996 M3 Golf (V6) with AAA engine code and coil pack ignition and manual transmission.

Does anyone know if this engine will fit my V6 Auto Galaxy reagrding the engine mounts as I have been told they are in diffrent locations on some VW V6 engines, as with the Auto box do I have to change the flywheel or anything else or is fiting an Auto box onto an engine origanally fitted with a manual box more complicated than it sounds ??????????? :(

Many thanks and looking forward to the replies
