But from what ive been told "i have a 2.3 2000 automatic" the belt do take a bit of a hammering on the galaxy's. The only other thing i would say is that when they go you dont always get any warning. We were in the Brecon Beacons last week and mine snapped in the middle of now where. lol. Lucky i had a spareDanny Edited June 6, 2007 by Trucker Quote
bigdaddy Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Well my gal is the mk1 and I got the squealing belt,,,,well replaced belt,,,,still squealing,,,,lay under engine with it running to see the pulley alignment,,,,,,,,,jesus,,,,that what I said,,,the idle pulley was wobbling about worse than a strawberry jelly,,, straight to ford 15 bucks + vat,,,,,,got it fitted,,,,still squealing,,,,,pulled the tensioner pulley,,,it nearly fell apart in my hands,,,,straight down to ford (only1/2 mile away) and ogt/ordered the new one 83 bucks + vat,,,,, Quote
jerseyjon Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 ok so what am i doing wrong? i've fitted the new tensioner but the new belt doesn't seem long enough to go round the pulleys!? its about an inch short of slipping round the tensioner. The belt is exactly the same length as the old one and i've spent a couple of hours skinning knuckles trying to get it on, is there some kind of trick to it? any help would be much appreciated thanx Quote
Mirez Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Excuse me if I'm being rude, but you are moving the tensioner before trying to put the belt on yeah?? If not thats your problem, the place its naturally at now with no belt on is where its designed to try and get to with a socking big spring - you need to de-tension it so you can slip the belt on which will involve either the "special tool" or some improvisation as its under a lot of pressure. Also H&S warning - mind your fingers!! :angry2: Quote

Mirez Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I didn't change mine on the 2.3 but the td was tough - I seem to recall using a socket to hold it open aswell but on its side as that tensioner needs to open a long way Quote
