big_kev Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Can you provide us with details of the remapping...where you got it from......if this is not too sensitive. It may prevent other forum members experiencing the same problem. Quote
jkspoff Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 The remap I had done was excellent whilst I wasn't pulling a caravan, the extra torque and the general driveability was superb compared to the normal settings. It actually made an MPV enjoyable to drive and very quick off the mark. It is a shame the engine couldn't cope with the extra heat generated by it.I woul have it done again if I wasn't pulling this big 1.4 tonne trailer behind me, I won't mention the company as it isn't the fault of them, just my greed for extra power, plus there was nothing wrong with the actual remap, it just needed testing more. Scorpiorefugee Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Methinks we all learned a bit from this. Good topic all round. Shame it cost jkspoff a fair few quid but at least he got a result. Thanks to Seatkid for the info on expansion. One day we may find something he can't answer. Quote
gregers Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 glad you got it sorted JK at least it hasnt cost you over Quote
jkspoff Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 At least I now have a new water pump, new thermostat and new cam belt and tensioner, which was due for change anyway, all for Quote
Guest wolfie Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 plus now the remap is off I'm getting better mpg ! finally someone actually admits that their MPG suffered due to chipping! could it be the end of the tales of I have x amount more power and now get XXX MORE MPG  Quote
jkspoff Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 (edited) Its not possible to have one without effecting the other, mpg will always suffer slightly from a remap power ECU upgrade, you can't have the best of both worlds as you say wolfie.I still miss the extra power I had before though, the extra 35-40mpg made a big big difference, so much so, I am tempted to trade it in for a larger engine, maybe the 150bhp mk2, money permitting of course ! jkspoff Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 The final verdict on my overheating problem that may help others: It was down to 2 main things: ECU remap, when pulling the caravan only, the engine could not cope with the extra heat that was generated with the extra power. Solution: Remap removed for free. Expansion bottle cap, the pressure attachment inside the cap was worn down and not keeping pressure. Solution: Replaced expansion cap for Quote
