mutleybrookes Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 hi everyonejust been following your excellent advice on getting the central locking fixed, replaced the fuse and hey presto it works!anyway now the car wont start!it makes a rapid ticking noise, the radio has lost its channels, the red led on the door doesn't flash and basically what do i do now?i only have a red master key that was working properly until just.its a 2.8 v6 auto and im scared to touch it againhelp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) Quote
turk90210 Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 Hi mutleybrookesthe rapid ticking noise (which could be your starter motor) and the radio loosing its channels sounds like a classic flat battery problem. The lights and everything else might work ok but your starter requires 9-10 volts to spin it properly, if there is not enough in the battery to turn it, alot of other circuits momentarily loose their power ,then when you stop turning the starter the power is returned to the other circuits. This in turn resets your radio to default (sometimes a code is needed) it can also cause alarms to need reprogramming aswell Try jumpstarting it and let us know how you get on Quote
mutleybrookes Posted May 26, 2007 Author Report Posted May 26, 2007 hey thanks it was the battery! so the next thing to fix is the cigarette lighter and the rear sockets, changed the big fuse on the top left as other forums had described i think its no 35,but still no joy, any ideas? i fitted a yellow 20 amp fuse, is this the right ratig? turk90210 Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 hi Mutleysorry for the delay been a bit busyre the cig lighter fuse i had to dig out my old haynes for this info it lists the cig lighter fuse as a 20 amp (yellow) in the main fuse box No7 counting left to rightsome times fuses are hard to see when they are blown without taking them out, a trick i use is to use a volt meter or some type of test lamp and probe onto the fuse they usually have a little tag that you can touch, obviously if there is power on one side and not the other the fuse is gonelooking at the wiring diagram the cig lighter has a permenant live. Depending on what you are checking you sometimes have to have the ignition onI cant find any mention of the rear sockets but it wouldn't suprise me if they are on the same fuse Quote
mutleybrookes Posted May 28, 2007 Author Report Posted May 28, 2007 thanks turki checked fuse no 7, it was ok but it wasn't yellow kind of whiteish, i used a multimeter to check it and it's ok. Like i said before i changed the top left hand fuse which had blown, its red, using the forum i put a 20 amp in but this was yellow,so im still confused (that isn't hard). If any body can help me with my seemingly endless electrical questions..........how can i check if my towbar electrics are working as i want to buy a trailer but dont want it not to work, hope that makes sense!....also why don't my interior lights come on automatically, have tried the switches but to no avail!cheers Quote
mutleybrookes Posted June 5, 2007 Author Report Posted June 5, 2007 sorted! had another look around and the top row of fuses that you have to strain your neck to see a 10amp fuse was blown aprox 4th fuse from the top left, changed it and hey presto back sockets now work!!!!!!!!!!!!!im as happy as a pig in muck! now if i can just cure the other dozen faults................................
