william Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Pollen filters with or without carbon should not be washed if you want them to retain the filtration efficiency. You are also likely to damage the filter media. The carbon in the filter is not just for the drivers benefit but also to stop corrosive hydrocarbons dissolving in the condensate on the evaporator matrix - leading to A/C leaks and costly repairs!! It can get wet from too much water coming down the window and not draining away fast enough. Fire hose?? :rolleyes: if thats one of those high pressure high volume jobs you might even damage radiator/condensor/fan/other bits in which case a wet filter would be nothing! Also the engine air intake is tucked up in the front grille! :lol: Quote

Anyone remember the newspaper ad Volvo ran in the 1970's with a fire hose dousing the engine for a few minutes, then claiming the car started and drove away no problem? Quote

My gal's kept in the basement car park of a tower block and like some other residents I wash the car inside the car park by naughtily using the emergency fire hose. This time of year I try to make sure I'm getting all the salty road spray out of every nook and cranny, spraying the underside, radiator grill etc, but I only use the hose on fairly low pressure.
