graemer Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Tried a new cabin filter (for 2001 1.9 TDi) from halfords and it is not a good fit - reading some of the comments from this forum I am worried about water ingress. SO..I guess only route is a genuine part from Ford which means Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 No, can't be washed. You can buy these (genuine) from GSF/Europarts at much less. Quote
seatkid Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Also try http://www.vwspares.co.uk/alhambra_filters.html Why use a carbon filter? They are useful for removing smells and pollution only. Save yourself Quote
Jim Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 As SA says.... I bought a pollen filter for my VW Passat from GSF for Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 My local Ford dealer only charged about a tenner for my pollen filter when done with a service in middle of last year. Are you sure your dealer quoted the right price? Quote
william Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Pollen filters with or without carbon should not be washed if you want them to retain the filtration efficiency. You are also likely to damage the filter media. The carbon in the filter is not just for the drivers benefit but also to stop corrosive hydrocarbons dissolving in the condensate on the evaporator matrix - leading to A/C leaks and costly repairs!! rwtomkins Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Where is the pollen filter? Is there a danger of wetting it by enthusiastically blasting the radiator grill with a fire hose, as I did last Sunday afternoon? Quote
gazza007 Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Time for somebody to do some Piccy's on removal  Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Have to be weekend! Might throw in "where's the oil filter" at the same time since I seem to be getting PMd. Quote
seatkid Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Where is the pollen filter? Is there a danger of wetting it by enthusiastically blasting the radiator grill with a fire hose, as I did last Sunday afternoon? It under the front window (passenger side). It can get wet from too much water coming down the window and not draining away fast enough. Fire hose?? if thats one of those high pressure high volume jobs you might even damage radiator/condensor/fan/other bits in which case a wet filter would be nothing! Also the engine air intake is tucked up in the front grille! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 ...but the pollen filter is at the back of the engine bay so little chance of blasting it with a fireman's hose shot through the rad grille. Anyone remember the newspaper ad Volvo ran in the 1970's with a fire hose dousing the engine for a few minutes, then claiming the car started and drove away no problem? Quote
rwtomkins Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 It's not quite as bad as I made it sound. My gal's kept in the basement car park of a tower block and like some other residents I wash the car inside the car park by naughtily using the emergency fire hose. This time of year I try to make sure I'm getting all the salty road spray out of every nook and cranny, spraying the underside, radiator grill etc, but I only use the hose on fairly low pressure.
