Guest steel Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 The last few weeks, my car has developed a noise not dissimilar to the sound of an aeroplanes jet engine! Is this normal? It has only started since it has it's 40,000 service/weather has got colder. Also, can anyone tell me should my car have Remote Central Locking?I have always used the key in the door, and don Quote
seatkid Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 The last few weeks, my car has developed a wine not disimilar to the sound of an areoplanes jet engines! Is this normal? It has only started since it has it's 40,000 service. Does the sound come from under nearside passenger door? (Starts sometime after engine starts ) - this is the auxillary (booster) heater. It only cuts in in cold weather during the engine warm up period and makes a turbo whine constant pitch - normal. Or does it come from the engine bay (turbocharger  oh dear) - changes pitch with engine speed. Remote chance could be a belt or alternator. Quote
Mussey1 Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 It your car is a MK1 Zetec, then it will not have remote locking. My locks froze twice over the Christmas holidays, it's a real pain. The VW locks don't seem too good!! Mussey1 Quote
smon Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Lots of info on both these topics in various threads. Do a search for auxiliary heater or booster heater which is almost certainly the source of your jet engine noise (quite normal). The gritty key problem is also discussed in a thread. Happy searching.Simon Quote
Tigger Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Gritty door locks are aproblem. han all mine changed under waranty on Mk1. second lock also went gritty. I just kept it well oiled and never had a problem from then on! Quote
Dally Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I find the the ignition barrel a bit stiff and gritty. Obviously poorly designed - as this was the case on my 2002 model 2.3 galaxy as well. Quote
