Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 What do you mean? Will the lever physically not go into the "R" position, or does it go, but there is no drive? Quote
Guest HENRYGB Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 What do you mean? Will the lever physically not go into the "R" position, or does it go, but there is no drive? The lever goes into R no problem the revs are fine the reverse lights are on but teh car will not engage Reverse at all. Mechanic friend disconnected the gearbox managment (please excuse the lack of knowledge) and it was fine, connect it back oand no reverse. Very frustrating. Regards HENRYGB Quote

Galaxy1.9TDI Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 Please help....after changing brake light switch after VAGCOM report, I have no reverse gear? All other gears engage but i cannot get reverse. Any idesa would be a big help as Local Ford dealership are puzzled and do not know of tgis problem. Regards HENRYGB  I have a 2002 1.9TDI Galaxy automatic. When cold she wont go into reverse. Gear lever moves to reverse OK and reverse lights go on but car doesnt engage and move backwards. After running for 5 to 10 mins or when warm reverse is fine. I have just checked the gearboox oil level and it appears to be OK. So I too would like any suggestions. Occasionally she seems to take her time selecting top gear. This may be relevant? I take it brake pedal or switch would prevent gear selector lever moving. So my fault must be either the connecting cables or the box itself? Thanks Quote

Regards HENRYGB -_- You did change the switch for the correct one....there are 2 and they are different....although they will physically fit in either position.......stick the old one back in and see if reverse works. Dave-G Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Anyone know how this turned out? I'm curious why the poster is not a member so I cannot PM him - nor look into his details so I could Email him for an update. I wasnt aware non members could post here. I have the same problem - the gearbox is fine when the engine warms up. No faults found by vagcom, though vagcom does show the gearbox reaching 45 degrees when reverse does engage. Quote
spfeno Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 Dave-G, did you solve this problem as I have had it myself over the last while in my automatic Gal. When put into 'R' it appears to go into limp mode and doesn't engage. I put it into neutral again and then into 'R' and she then engages and all is OK. Quote
