could anyone give me a rough indication of how long the brake pads should last on a 2002 2.3 Auto driven 'normaly'??

- eg should I expect to replace them at 20k or 40k ?

thanxs in advance

Depends on your definition of normally. I would expect original pads to last 40,000. Aftermarket brands probably only 20,000. Inspect brake pads regularly (at least 10,000 miles) and you will soon work it out. Discs need to be inspected and changed if necessary too.

There are some threads on brake wear in technical section..

No experience of this, BUT, :o Granny might get 30k miles out of them in an AUTO :o

:o p1948040, Is that male or female?

:o BEAR IN MIND THAT THERE IS LITTLE ENGINE BRAKING IN AUTO'S

A thread i started a few days ago asks a question pertinent to this, few answers there though.

thank you all for taking the time to respond, some interesting comments.

Dam it, unfortunately I don't have a reference to compare them too as I only checked them recently at 18k!

I'd like to think they are about half way through - fronts look around 7mm thick each side and the master cylinder fluid level is still up quite high. It is the wifes car and I think she drives fairly sedately on the brakes, so could be on for 35k...

I'm guessing it's a fairly heavy car, which will clearly take it's toll on the brakes/tires.

I seem to be getting about 1mm/3k on the fronts and about 1mm/9K on the rears. I have rotated them once, so I should get about 25k on the fronts, which does sound quite reasonable given the weight and barge like handling of the car, so I think she seems to be driving it fairly 'normaly'...

Out of interest, does anyone happen to know the costs for OEM / aftermarket pads ?

thanx
