big_kev Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Range Rover....Shogun doesn't even come close. Quote
adrianf. Posted May 12, 2007 Author Report Posted May 12, 2007 Not sure if he thought about the Landcruiser, ill mention it to him. Quote
jkspoff Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 Definately the Range Rover, the Shogun is too stereotyped the wrong way, if you follow what I mean ! Quote
El Dingo Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 I can't recommend 4 x 4 unless it's an old Audi quattro. And I certainly can't recommend diesel... Quote
El Dingo Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Does he really need a 4 x 4? Is he going off-road? For 12k a Disco diesel is OK - except on the road, where there is a serious lack of performance. They aren't the most reliable either... To me, the big question is if the car is going off-road or not. If not, the Shogun is a reasonable choice. Quote
El Dingo Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Adrian, some info for your 'friend': http://www.usedcarmart.co.uk/forum/f31-4x4.html Also, Honest John does a car-by-car breakdown at: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/index.htm ...and here: http://www.reviewcentre.com/products31.html. I particularly liked the reviews of the Merc ML. When the reviews are so polarised, you get the feeling something isn't quite right with the ML... Quote
adrianf. Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 Cheers El Dingo for that. Some very interesting reading there. Its a pity the RR doesnt have a better reputation for reliability cos i think its deffo the smartest looking but thats not much use on the hard shoulder is it.I havnt ever looked at the newer shaped shogun to be honest, it just looks so bloody big but most jap stuff is very reliable and thats what counts.
