galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Hi, Anyone experienced replacing brake pipes from master cylinder to the rear calipers ? Is it is 3 or 4 sections ? My 1999 Galaxy has rather alot of rust on these pipes for the MOT man to agree to. What should I get charged from a local non-Fraud garage for replacing them ? Thanks, Graeme Quote
sparky Paul Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 (edited) Has the MOT man pinpointed which bits are too scabby, or has he actually said it all needs replacing? For each side, there's a solid bit on the back trailing arms, connected to the chassis solid pipe with a flexible. Not 100% sure, but would assume the front half would be solid pipe up to the ABS pump, then a solid to the master cylinder. Usually, it's the back part on the suspension arms which suffer, as they are very vulnerable - fortunately, it's the easiest bit to replace. Sorry, not up on current garage prices, I did my own, but I'm sure someone else will have some idea. HTH  Edited May 10, 2007 by sparky Paul Quote
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec Posted May 11, 2007 Author Report Posted May 11, 2007 It was just sections, but I can anticipate that removing some will mean that others will seize when trying to undo. Anyway, I will crawl under with wire brush and oily rag forst to clean them up. Quote
