Paul Marsland Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 Apologies for repetition of any prior threads... I couldn't find one that covered my exact questions. I've got a Sharan 2.8 V6... used to have a Galaxy 2.3l Ghia. Had a horrible grinding noise from the front passenger window when closing it on Sunday, leaving the window half open. I removed the door card yesterday to investigate the problem... turns out the cable in the regulator has been chewed up in the mechanism. The motor is fine - I've tried it having disconnected the regulator/cables. I've also wedged the window shut for the time being with wood. How easy a job is it to replace the regulator ? I'm pretty inexperienced, but from what I can see it shouldn't be too much of a challenge. Is it worth even thinking about replacing just the cables - looks very intricate and a challenge to get the right tension and cable length. I've had VWs quote me Quote
mumof4 Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 cheeky bugger!! I have just replaced the regulator in one of my doors.. easy??..well..with hindsite it is yes..but mine went a weee bit wrong.. dont take the window out of the door!!!!!!!! you can replace the regulator pretty easy..just screw the motor onto the regulator you get from VW..good price as i paid 155 for mine including motor as ford dont do them sep! be careful as there isnt much room inside the door for manoevering.Bu tit should be easy. Cant replace just the cable as i already went down that route and believe me..once in a muddle they are a pain to sort out..i spent 2 days trying to get mine done!.. Quote
Paul Marsland Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 be careful as there isnt much room inside the door for manoevering. Thanks for the advice... I think I'll give it a go. I wasn't planning on doing a magic trick by climbing inside the door to do the repair job though, so I'll try to do it all from the outside  Quote
Paul Marsland Posted May 12, 2007 Author Report Posted May 12, 2007 Thanks for the pointers to the info. I've got to say it turned out to be surprisingly easy given the right tools, so I'm delighted to have saved the Quote
