Haven't been on here for a while as the car has been behaving!

I think my water pump has failed, Car overheats at speed and radiator seems to be too cool. No loss of coolant or anything and the heaters stay cold. The cooling system does not build up too much pressure so I don't think head gasket has failed it was replaced along with the cylinder head at 60k when the water pump failed the last time.

What I want to know is how much should i expect to pay for it to be repaired. The dealer has quoted

The water pump is behind the Timing belt so if the entire pump is replaced the belt needs to be done however you can purchase an impellor and front flange for the pump which means the belt does nothave to be removed and replaced.

I am sure someone who has access to the service information will be along and will confirmt or dispell this.

Been there and got lucky. My pump failed on my 52 ghia and I survived a 200 mile homeward journey by using the heater to keep the engine cool and sticking to 55/60. Apparently and reading btween the lines this can be a major cause of gasket failure so you should get it fixed. My belt had been changed by Ford some 5000 miles earlier so my local independant just changed the pump. He did say that these are getting so common that it is worth getting it changed along with the cam belt every time, so the choice is yours.

Be lucky.
