Looks like they are gonna sort the timing belt out for me.

I will also make sure they change the tensioner. I would have thought not doing so was a false economy as if the tensioner goes, you may as well have a belt failure?

Thanks for the bulletin btw - nice to be able to quote these things.

;) OOF! What a mess! What engine was that? Presumably it was a scrapper. How old was belt/tensioner went it went?

(automatic) tensioners cost a lot more than the belts and seem not to be a long lasting component. B) Seems to me it would have been preferable to have the old manual tensioner but then again how many dealers ever checked and adjusted those?

Well, cannot complain on this one. Once the dealer had checked the computer, they confirmed that the belt should indeed have been done at 40K, they said they will do it FOC  ;) ;) . An oversight on their behalf as my car was one of the first 3 year warranty cars.

I have been told that the belt should be good for 60K, but with the warranty going from one to three years, the belt interval was brought down to 40K just in case, as belts snapping before 60K would cost Ford a lot of dosh!

I will also ensure that the tensioner is done at the same time.

Is the tensioner and idler all the same component?

Another happy customer!! ;) Well done...I think the tensioner and idler are one and the same thing in your case.....shoot me down anyone if I'm wrong...
