Guest iannicoll Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Hi Has anyone carried 5 bikes on a Galaxy. What type of racks have you used, and do you know where to get them at a reasonable price? It won't be long til spring and I want to be able to get the family's bikes on the car. ThanksIan Quote
Guest Barrye Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I carry 6 bikes on my galaxy, 4 on the roof and 2 on the back. The roof bars are Thule and the 4 bike carriers on the roof are Hafords cheapie ones. The rear rack is a towbar mounted one ( can't remember where it came from). One thing to remember - put the kids bikes on the roof. It's a real S** to lift an adults bike up there Quote
Guest michelleski Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Hi - can anyone tell me whether a bike rack that fits a pre 2000 galaxy would also fit a 2001 model? I only need to carry 3 bikes and have been looking at a second hand Ford one that carries 3 bikes, but it is supposedley for a 2000 model Galaxy (or earlier). Thanks!Michelle. Quote
Guest manwithtool Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Hi try out Towsure http://www.towsure.co.uk/ I got my towbar from these guys, excellent service good products and cheap. They do some good bike racks (when you go to the web site you need to click thru cycle carriers then onto tow bar mounted, don't stop at the first page displayed !They can carry upto 4 bikes Quote
Richmond Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 An outfit called Atera Linea do a 4 bike rear carrier for the Galaxy which doesn't obscure the lights. Look at http://www.roofbox.co.uk/linea.html Quote

PopDorset Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 A friend who runs a VW T4 transporter uses a Fiamma rear mouted one...he's very pleased. ;) They also do them for Sharans (and other vehicles) Aluminium, lightweight and they look good. Go to Fiamma PopDorset Quote
iainkirk Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 These old posts mysteriously re-appear from time to time! Almost 2 years and 2 months between posts...is this a record for this site??? And NO, don't go and artificially reincarnate some older ones for the sake of it!!! Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Can we still get to the real early forum? there are a few good topics on there we could breath life back into ;) Quote
rwtomkins Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Where do all you folks go on holiday with 5 bikes strapped to the back? My kids are just getting into bikes but I don't know a holiday destination where they can use them safely, except Center Parcs which is too expensive. Is there somewhere where very young children can have great fun cycling around while not being on a public road? Quote
Andrew T Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 A lot of Forestry areas are open to cycling with marked out trails but are not ideal for learners due to the hills and rough surfaces. The best thing we have found are disused railway lines converted to cycle tracks, they are traffic free with smooth surfaces and easy gradients and are great for building up wobbly riders confidence in safety. A good one that springs to mind is the Tissington trail in the Peak district. Try looking up Traffic Free routes on http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ for more info. Quote
