Guest warnerj Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Hi, Welcome to to 2004 everyone! Does anyone know how to allow the sat nav to display the video image (through the AV socket) while the vehicle is moving? At present I can play the video through the sat nav including the sound, but when I go over 2mph the screen cuts out for safety reasons (however the audio continues). Is it possible to overide this? I know you could consider this to be irresponsible - but for the front passenger it would be good. Many thanks, Jonathan P.S. I have an ex ford-direct demo 2002 2.3 Ghia with the factory fitted sat nav and VHS multimedia. Quote
johnb80 Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 I would think that the unit senses the speed via the speed pulse so removing that would stop it knowing that you were on the move. In doing so it would also stop the SatNav functioning correctly. Maybe put a switch in the line of the speed pulse ? I know you say it's for the front seat passenger, I do however have concerns in the event of a mishap, if the insurance company investigated it and found this 'mod' that you may have a problem. Guest siroccoman Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 I had exactly the same problem in my RaRo Td6 Vogue. This has now been overcome via an adapter purchased from http://www.soundlinks.co.uk/ Have not looked in to the matter with the Galaxy yet but i would imagine they would make an adapter to allow it to operate in the same way. I think they are back open again on Monday 5 Jan.Dave Quote
Dave-G Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Welcome warner. Dont do it! Do you think the police will beleive its for the front passengers benefit alone?...I dont think so...and you're bound to absorb some of what is on? :o I know you don't want a lecture, but if i saw a "tv" on somebody's dash, the word prat would be in mind  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Not wishing to spoil the fun, but it's also illegal, hence the automatic cutting of the video signal as a "standard" feature once the car is moving. Quote
Guest warnerj Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Thanks for your replies. If I was to pursue this avenue I thought about making a small screen (in the other sense of the word) to block the driver's vision of the sat nav's screen. Balck card might work for example. I understand it's probably illegal - but recently we had a video showing on a long journey and all the passengers were watching but my wife couldn't - so that was the background to my question. I certainly don't wish to be watching while driving. Cheers, Jonathan Quote
