Hi all,

my galaxy v6 has had a duff pressure sensor (blue one) causing the flashing oil can and an annoying beep - when I replaced the sensor and carried out an oil change as well, the annoying beep has gone but the flashing can is still there. The handbook suggests low oil level which it isn't whre would the level sensor be on the engine couldn't see anything on the sump. Also VAG-COM didn't show any releated faults.

try disconnecting the battery for a bit then reconnecting.My oil level sensor on my diesel was on the bottom on the sump.I have changed mine.I know yours is a V6..but try the battery method first.

No worries.I changed both my pressure sendor and level sensor..believe me..battery is not a last resort unless you want to spend 60 quid on a level sensor.Good luck!

Your right, my last resort before I spend big bucks on parts, still not sure where the level sensor is though, had a good root around the V6 cd and couldn't find it, pretty sure the system uses one but where it is only VW knows. :(

I really dont know if it is different on a V6..but it is right at the bottom of the sump on mine..

Now this is it in situ..not a very good pic..but it is the underneath of the level sensor as the tall bit goes into the sump.Was flat on my back under the car when i took this pic.

I was looking for something like that during the oil change as it was up on jacks with the undertray off, but failed to find anything of sensor looking hardware, found a few knock sensors and other bits but nothing at a level that would be used to measure low oil unless the one just above the sump joint has a protrusion sticking down to the sump :(

After scouring the Galaxy wiring diagrams, it would appear that the V6 doesn't have an oil level sensor, but mine does have a wiring fault between the low level sensor & instrument cluster or worse still a duff inst cluster, so tonight I shall be mainly fault finding on wiring looms ^_^

Hmmm..........you replaced the pressure sensor yes?..try the battery method as i think that when i changed my pressure sensor, if i had disconnected my battery then, the oil can would have gone out.As it didnt go out even after changing the level sensor..then i disconnected the battery then it went out.

 

so i still would try disconnecting the battery for a few mins.about 10 mins i think it needs.

 

How do you know it has a wiring fault?

can i just add...thay when i did mine..peeps on here werent sure if mine had one..(a level sensor)..as no one could find it on the TIS .Was only when i went to Fords to see and order one that it was confirmed for def that it had one.Soooo..it might be worth ringing/going to see them to see if it does have one and see if they will give you the schematic that shows where it is if it does?

 

still bear in mind that mines a diesel though!!.Must admit..that if i didnt have the illustration i wouldnt have known what i was looking for.

Done the battery thing, checked the sensor operates with multimeter, physically checked the engine, checked the TIS wiring diags for all years/ models - V6 not fitted with level sensor, VW engine cd says only Hi & Lo pressure sensors fitted. The fault is open circuit wire or cluster as the connector when shorted to earth didn't change anything, so I'm afraid it's probably a new cluster as the cheap option (fix wire) never happens to me ^_^

I've a replacement cluster on it's way due to the oil alarm and flashing oilcan on whether the sensor is open or closed, initially after start up there's +5V on the connnetor for the sensor after a few minutes that disappears, obviously the TTL or chip voltage driver in the cluster is packing up causing a trigger of the oil warning circuit, which is very annoying to the ears, hopefully the gal will be fighting fit at some point over the w/end. :rolleyes:
