mumof4 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 found this info.. Drilling Out Rivets First, mark the centre of the rivet with either a #40 drill bit, or even a push-punch. Next, drill the head with a #30 bit, and snap it off with a 1/8 Quote
mumof4 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!..3 Drill bits broken..last one wen it broke skated across my knee..( sat drilling the rivet between my knees) I now have an off centre hole in one rivet..and when i drill the whole bloody thing whizzes round..how the flip am i supposed to get it out when it goes round and round??. Guest wolfie Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 drill it at an angle! if you drill straight onto the rivet it will spin! line the drill bit up in the center of the rivet and then lay the drill down slightly while applying gentle pressure! if the rivet starts to spin alter the angle so the drill bit bites but doesnt force the rivet to spin, or file/grind the head off the rivet, or apply a set of grips to the back of the rivet and then drill the head out but dont drill resting the part on any part of your body! drills are used to make holes and they are not fussy what they drill through! metal, flesh or bone they dont care! mumof4 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 Thanks Mike,Fixing a regulator that is totally dismantled is a pain in the rear.plus, ive got the stuff to fit the round thing to the regulator...but i cant make the caseing go thru the hole that the screw fits into.its the right size..but a bloody tight fit and i dont want to break the reg.Ah well....if i can get it reassembled, then i only have to refit it..then put the door back together.gawd.why do i do these things. big boy stevie Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 sorry just to add to oil leak from rocker cover i had an omega 2.5 v6 and thay told me that i had to buy complete covers at a cost Quote
mumof4 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 Ok.here is a couple of pics. Door completely stripped .You have to detach the door card, take off the weather strip from all around the door where the window goes. This is what it still looks like now. and here are the broken drill bits and the 2 round things that the cables go round..the rivets are also in the pic. Door with the plank of wood in it holding the window up.I had to knock the plank out with a hammer from the side, as the metal ledge that it had been resting on had dug into the wood and also bent the ledge a bit.The window had also dug into the wood at the top. Thanks Nik for uploading them for me. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 both regs dropped off at the garage...touch wood they can reassemble and fit that piece on!!.will find out later this aft. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 for all those that wonder if their alarm works..tip for you.. open the windows..lock the door....go back a while later and reach in through the car....gave me a hell of a fright when it happened to me just now!! my alarm works! :( another tip.. door cards...they do just slide up and off..you can still see all the yellow door clips in my shell of a door.Push it up from the bottom gently..well..i whacked mine..but i wont tell you to that as i dont want to be liable if you break it!.lol Quote
mumof4 Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 update. :( The reg is assembled. One problem.the cable that moves the clamps up and down which the window sits in, keeps going loose. So i cant fit it to the car, because he couldnt get it to work properly and we both tried when i turned up to pick it up, he hasnt charged me for the work he did. He knows the guy who runs breakers yards in Ireland and Grantham so will speak to him first thing in the morn as he has 2 galaxys he is breaking in Grantham. If he has the right one, i will have one tomorrow..if not..well.....its back to window and wood!. :) Quote

mumof4 Posted May 2, 2007 Author Report Posted May 2, 2007 Have just finished the door.Few problems along the way but soon sorted.Took pics and will upload them later with explanations. Thank you everyone for your help.specially those that helped on the phone and listened to me talking through things to myself!. Quote
mumof4 Posted May 2, 2007 Author Report Posted May 2, 2007 (edited) Here is the new regulator installed. That was the easy bit.I have since come to the conclusion that you dont need to remove the window to either replace the motor or put a new reg in. When i put this seal back on, i had a few probs.I couldnt get it on properly and i tried for an hour.I ended up taking the car to fords and it took 2 lads half an hour to put it back on.This seal is the hardest thing to put back on. Door all reassembled!and the window works! At the top of the window you can see the seal which is a bit kinked, this is where i kinked it and had to try and hammer out the kinks carefully. Not perfect but i will sort it out another day. Edited May 3, 2007 by mumof4 was blotto when i added this post and it was illegible. Quote
Smilge Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Well done Maz ..... I think I would have struggled to looking at your piccies and I know where to come if mine needs sorting. Cracking job! Quote
mumof4 Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 Thank you.i was more concerned about the window than anything else but that was the easy part, also putting the regulator in was easy..it was just that seal as it is such a tight fit.ended up having to drop the window in the door as far as it could go..then put the two "legs" of the seal into the door as far as you can without stripping the rubber off them with the metal of the door, then press the two ends onto the ridge where they go, then keeping them in place which is very hard, push the lot up.the two lads were doing those whilst i had a flat bladed screwdriver making sure the seals stayed in place and didnt fold over. Its strength you need more than anything and it is hard. Now i know the mistakes i made..and the conclusion i came to..id do it again. Only thing is now i discovered last night, when i lock the car, the lock on that door locks after all the others.so i think the locking cable is a bit lax, so i will have to at some stage sort that out.
