The new shape Ford CD player is better spec and better looking than the old 6000 series, it is also double height and double DIN, does anyone know if it will fit the Galaxy straight in ? i.e. the one below from ebay. Ta

The cages are different. If you look on ebay you will see sets of removal tools for the later Ford units, they are flat and fit in the four corners of the units as oppose to the forks used on the earlier units. If you look closely at the picture you will see four horizontal slots about 1cm wide near the corners of the facia. Andy.

Ok, thanks for the replies, I will stay clear, it sounds too complex to make it worth it !

But from one extreme to the other, how easy do you recon this will be to fit in the Gal ?? It looks excellent and good value too, but what about the connectors etc.

jk why did you drop the eonon e626 idea ?

It looks like a good machine...

I wonder if it can control a CD changer.. and what would be required to integrate it with the stalk controls....

are they really that cheap ? omg..

I dropped the idea of the eonon2626 because it is double DIN size, whereas the Galaxy is only DIN and a third size, so it would mean removing bits of trim above the climate control panel, and the unit would stand proud of the dash. There was always the option of cutting away the panel below the cup holders and doing away with them.

So I've bid on the one above, looks better than the Ford radios and if the seller is to be believed it will actually fit straight into a standard Galaxy mk2 slot and hopefully have the same wiring, it does have multichanger controller.

I am sure with a bit of butchering of the dash the eonon will fit beautifully.

you can get trims from frauds/vw that were intended for the mk2, with the double din satnav.. they are very very inexpensive..

and it all fits perfectly...

Well, that radio that I pictured above, the Sony, do you think it is standard fit size (i.e. DIN +third) like a Ford 6000 radio ? or bigger ? I am worried now, I have got it off ebay and it may not fit !

Bugg#r ! What will I need to fit it in the standard DIN and a half slot ? A new surround and a new cage ??

All the bits to converet it are readily available, as the MFD SAT NAV that is fitted as standard to some of the Galaxy's is also 2DIN.

If you have any problems have a look at www.vwnavi.com as they have a large forum about the MFD and Sharan (same as a Galaxy).

I've got the radio delivered now off ebay, it is the same size as a standard Ford radio (6000 etc), it looks excellent and has a CD, Cassette and multi changer controller, they were apparently fitted to higher spec Fords between 2000 and 2005. Its a Sony unit. The only problem is the Galaxy surround facia is too tight to take it (only be a couple of mm), and it will need a new cage to hold it in place too, and its different wiring to connect it to a standard Ford radio, so its off to the local fitter for a quote........why is life never simple !

Be gentle I am new to this.

I have just bought an S reg Galaxy 2.3 Ghia.

Fitted in it ais a non-ford Radio/CD player which works fine but can not be controlled by the gizmo on the steering wheel.

What are my options?

replace the player?

change the way it is connected?

forget it?

Advice please (keep it simple - although I am good with electrics I am more used to working on planes than cars and know nothing about ICE).

Thanks

First, you need to check whether the radio / CD can be controlled remotely. If not, then you would need to replace it for one that can be if you want to use the controls on the steering column.

If it can be remotely controlled then you just need to find out what signals need to go where and connect the appropriate wires. I don't suppose you have the installation manual that came with the radio/CD? What is the make and model?

No I dont have any paerwork from the unit fitted it is a Pioneer MOSFET50wx4 deh-P3500MP if that means anything!!

Bleeno - didnt say aircraft systems were less complicated just different not quite old enough for camels but not far off - certainly never worked on one where the crew have ICE or should that be IPE. Did find a saxaphone in a Vulcan bomb bay once - but thats another story!!!

Oh the mighty V Bomber! I see XH558 is almost set for trials ..... can't wait to see it. I used to love watching them when I was at Waddo but the Saxophone was nothing to do with me Chief!

Sounds like your unit is using MOSFET transistors to give you 4X 50Watts ....... good sound! The last bit is obviously the model number, so between us we might be able to work out whether the controls on the steering wheel can be used with your head Unit.

That looks promising I will make contact and see what they say.

I was at waddo 1977-1980 as a very young tech. Things were big and simple on the Vs which made for easy learning.

I will let you know how I get on with the link - many thanks for your help so far.
