Bob East Yorks Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Hello All - new to the forum as I've just got a 2002 TDi Ghia - so far so good ! What's the best cable / software combination to buy for reading the engine info via the obdii DLC ? I've read most of the previous posts on this subject and whilst I'm not new to the concept of computer diagnostics of engines there are one or two concepts here I'd like clarification on. My experience so far has been on industrial machinery but most of the protocols are industry specific. The Galaxy is of the same design Sharan / Alhambra so the VAG-Com software presumably works on the Galaxy even though is really advertised as suitable for the VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda marcs ? Also the Vag-com software seems to be around Quote
Bob East Yorks Posted May 1, 2007 Author Report Posted May 1, 2007 Anybody ?? ( Bob checks underarms and also diary as to when he had a bath last :) ) Quote
mumof4 Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 LOL..i dont know hun..as i dont have VAG-COM.Some peeps buy the cables off e-bay then download the free version. oo...Lynx is nice!!Mmmmm...... Quote
Smilge Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Hiya Bob ...... did a little research myself after a few problems with mine and basically once I've saved a bit of dosh I'd go for this: http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VCHU.html You can have a look at http://www.ross-tech.com/ for more information. This is where most download the software and some even register it to gain full functionality. Hope this helps. Quote
Bob East Yorks Posted May 4, 2007 Author Report Posted May 4, 2007 Well I've orderd an ELM327 with cable , software etc - I'll let you know how I get on with it ! Quote
Bob East Yorks Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 Got the ELM 327 and cable - works fine, the software found the USB ports on my laptop etc so no problems. Got it from autobitz on ebay for about Quote
turk90210 Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Sorry I cant comment on the ELM327 as Ive never used it and am unsure just how indepth it will go when checking for faults If you have a diesel Galaxy I think you might be better with the VAG.Com as this will interface with all the systems on you car from engine to parking sensor ecu's. I have a generic OBD2 tool but can only interface with the engine ecu but even still it will only give me a code reading if the eml light is onWhen I tried VAG.com it goes into everything from engine to parking sensor ecu's and highlighted 3 faults I never knew I had (well apart from a fault on the parking sensors which i was struggling to identify) but vag.com told me the exact sensor which was faulty, and as mentioned told me of other faults which hadn't brought the management light on You can buy a dumb interface off ebay for around Quote
Bob East Yorks Posted May 16, 2007 Author Report Posted May 16, 2007 Thanks Turk, yes with hindsight I might have been better off with the cheaper cable - I bought the interface I did as it will do cars with the more modern CAN system and if I change in the future it would still be ok. Anyhow it seems to work ok and I can get fully functioning software for it for round about the same price as the VAG-Com stuff so it's one of the same really. Bob Quote
