Guest Nobby Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Hi guys n gals, for ads long as I can remember, my 01 / 2.3 has had an intermittend Cruise Control. There appears to be no pattern, it either works or it doesn't. Any one any clues as to what could be the problem? Also, does anyone have probs with the front seat recliner knobs and the rubber type material on the interior door handle inserts peeling off? Whats the solution, source different trim inserts from Passat / Golf / similar -in carbon or stainless etc? Thanks and a Healthy, Prosperous and Happy New Year to one and all  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Rubbery interior trim on door handles flaking off is supposed to be a "known problem" and should be fixed for free if vehicle is still under warranty (less than 3 years old).Sorry, can't help with the other queries you raised, but search the site for "cruise control" - several likely causes especially split vacuum hoses.Happy 2004!Ivor. Guest Nobby Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 Thanks Ivor. I read in another Cruise Control post about a dash light for this function?? Is that right? should I have a dash light on adsvising that the cruise is operational?? Also, got my overall average consumption up to 28.2 over Crimbo! Never seen it that high -did a lot of motorway miles tho. Not bad for a 2.3 ghia?! Quote
Dally Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 NobbyCheck this site out - they have some really nice brushed aluminium types. http://www.vagparts.com/pages/GolfBrushed.htm As Ivor says, ford will replace peeled handles under warranty - I've had to have some replaced on my previous and current galaxy. If they peel again, I might just consider those aluminium types - pricey tho they may be! Quote
Guest Nobby Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 Thanks for the comments and dally, I have been looking at Golf / passat door handle inserts too. There are some neat ones around. Just have to make sure that all 4 doors end up with the same trim on! -obviously! Not all seem to cross refer? Cheers Nobby Quote
Guest yurir Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Nobby, On the cruise control, have you read this post Dodgy Cruise Control I had the problem with the perished pipe from teh vac pump under the wing.Though if it was that, you'd probably have noticed a gradual loss of cruise control i.e. it would initially pull down the pedal, but gradually release it due to loss of vacuum. Good luck,Yuri. Quote
Taliska Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 My only thought on the cruise control is... you're not accidentally resting your foot on the clutch pedal when you try to engage (captain) are you? <_< Taliska Quote
Guest exemplum Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I had the same fault on my 1998 2.3 GhiaX took it to Ford's who replaced the speed sensor on the transmission, that didn't work, it went back to them 2 more times and they still didn't figure it out, In the end, I got hold of one of the Ford TiS CD Roms, and found that there is a small vacuum pump behind the nearside front wing. (Remove the front indicator unit to get to it) Fault was down to the rubber hose being split - 5 mins with a stanley knife and hey presto - 18 months on, still working a treat (about the only thing that is). Symptons you describe were identical to mine. Cheers and good luck. BTW, don't use a certain main Ford Dealership in Newport, Isle of Wight (you know who you are!!) Quote
MrB Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Brilliant - thanks guy's!!! I managed to fix the cruise control on my MD's Galaxy - he is well happy. I found the hose on the vacuam pump had split completely and had come adrift. There was not enough slack to just cut it back though. Ten inches of 5.5mm flexible fuel line hose and a couple of jubilee clips did the trick :D I also wouldnt reccomend a Ford main dealer in Northampton - hopeless bunch :( Quote
