Manxman Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Can someone tell me the best area to feed a cable through the bulkhead from inside the car to the engine compartment? Also, where is the best place to take a 12 volt auxillary feed from inside the car ? Thanks in advance for any advice. KF Quote
morticiaskeeper Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I've taken a tap off the 12v sockets in the boot. They're rated at 20A. I've put a plug inside the trim panel that I can plug my amp into. The amp is mounted on a board with jack speaker sockets. Also inside the panel I've routed phono plugs from the head unit and a switched positive to remote power the amp. Mind you, all my system is for is a 12v pa. A Bill Fitzmaurice Omni 10.5 250W cab and a Spirit Folio mixer to give mic & mp3 inputs. Purely in the interests of running the cab driver in  I connected the head unit and strapped the cab down to the seat mountings. Quite funny how cheap my system was compared to the boy racer brigade, standing outside the car and watching the glass move!! Quote
tdi90 Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 I fitted a charging socket to my Galaxy for the tow bar last week, which needed 2 12 volt supplys going to the engine bay.If you carefully pull the carpet down just under the glove box in the passenger side, you`ll see a rubber grommet. This comes out inside the engine bay below and a little to the left of the engine coolant reservoir. Quote

Just been looking at this and I have located the grommet on both sides of the bulkhead but one thing is still puzzling me. How the hell do you secure the cable to anything to stop it moving around and rubbing on things. Getting it through the bulkhead and fishing it upwards will be easy enough but it needs to be secured. In the same area are the heater and aircon pipes and the last thing you want is for a loose cable to be rubbing against them. I can see any conceivable way that you could possibly get your hands in far enough to be able to strap the cables to anything  Quote
tdi90 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I used sticky back cable tie holders where possible, then cable tied the wires to existing cables where possible so as not to leave wires dangling everywhere. Quote
katman Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I used sticky back cable tie holders where possible, then cable tied the wires to existing cables where possible so as not to leave wires dangling everywhere. So do I but where I was looking there was no way to get your hands in to tie to anything. As it transpired, I had "mislocated" the grommet in the engine bay. when I drilled through from the inside and poked a wire through it did come out where I thought it would!!!! The grommet I found inside the car was about 6 inches higher that the one in the engine bay and hidden further behind the coolant bottle. The resultant cable run was less than a foot and there was nothing anywhere near it for it to rub against. I ran two 10awg cables in black nylon mesh sleeving and straped the harness to the to of the black plastic near the coolant bottle and then tied it to the existing harnesses. I now have cables from the radio and battery to under the passenger seat. Just need to remove the seat to see if my amp will fit in there, i not it wil have to go under the drivers seat. Quote
