Genepaul Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Wife was taking the car for the MOT which was overdue as we had forgot :D and about 300 yards from the garage the car looses all drive as she pulls out of the junction :D Got it to the garage with the help of a tow truck to be told that the intermidiate driveshaft and drive shaft total worn, told them to fix her and then to do the MOT. Got the phone call to say failed on a front tyre, (knew it was close but being tight don't want to lose even a 1/2 mm of wear) again got them to put a nice new pair of Dunlops on the front so i could get the MOT with no recharge, did a reasonable price on those. Wife come home yesterday after picking it up, guess what, crushed sills :D Took it back today and they offered to straighten with a hammer and dolly :o unbelievable, i of caused refused this kind offer and suggested a visit to there bodyshop instead, booked next week, at least they didn't argue. mumof4 Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Dunlops??..tut tut...Awful tyres.reinforced i hope? Quote
Genepaul Posted April 6, 2007 Author Report Posted April 6, 2007 Don't tell me that now :D must be better than the Avon's i had, and yes they are reinforced. too late now, but what do people recommend? Quote
mumof4 Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 There is a lot of info on tyres and brands etc on the forum...general concencus(sp?) is that dunlops are crap.road noise is awful and they are too soft and dont last very long.Have a search on the forum and see what pops up. Quote
jkspoff Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 I agree about the poor Dunlops, however...............I was very surprised to find that my rear two Dunlop 2020's have lasted for over 60k on the rear, they are now swapped to the front and still on several thousand miles later, they do need replacing soon though. Well done getting the garage to fix your sills, I always make a point of telling them to be careful whilst lifting the Gal before hand, that way if they are crushed after they have to accept reponsibilty. I also leave a printout of the jacking points from Ford Tech info CD on the front passenger seat as a hint ! Quote
chromedome Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Crushed sills..................I too make the garage aware of this issue. They put my concerns in black & white on the job sheet, I put a big notice in big red capital letters on the dashboard and you guessed, they still bend them. :D Quote
whitty Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 crushed sills???? never heard of this problem ! then again i haven't had a jack anywhere near the beast yet! where are the corect jacking points? has anyone got a copy of tis that will cover my car and they would like to burn me off one id gladly pay for it Quote
mumof4 Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 you can actually see the jacking points on the car whitty, if you look at the sills front and rear you will see that the sill is not just straight along.there are indentations at the front and rear .Easiest way is to run your hands along it.
