tiny Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 A good while ago, i posted that i thought the car was a little sluggish. There were various replies and as a result I suspected the MAF might be the culprit. I never did anything about it as It wasnt that bad and as the old Gal's just a 2nd car i couldn't really be bothered! it was like that when I bought it, and now when I think about it, there was something not quite right about the exhaust note. Well last week things took a turn for the worse, the exhaust which had a slight blow from the flexi part of the front pipe got a lot louder, the power became non existent and acceleration was terrible. Well I went to a local exhaust place to get the front pipe changed. I mentioned the power loss and the guy (a mate) said without even looking at the car it sounds like your cats FAULTY (at least the word he used began with an F!). Anyhow the car was duly lifted up and a tap on the cat resulted in a loose thud from within and a horrible cringeing sensation in my back pocket. Well, new front pipe and cat fitted and the difference is unbelievable, nice and quiet with crisp acceleration-sorted! The cost Quote

morticiaskeeper Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 well if mine goes im gonna replace the exhaust with a stainless steel one with no cat :lol:perks of running on lpg. I thought about that, but my MOT tester said that it must have a CAT fitted if it was made as a petrol car from 93 onwards. Quote
HULK Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Thanks for your help, Got a V reg 2.3 auto galaxy bought 2 years ago, on 92k now, took out a 3 year warrenty cover but the cat is not covered, so took it back to the dealer (motornation) to check a faulty mid passenger window and mentioned about misfire/stutter lack of power between 2000 to 3000 revs. diagnosed coil packs, got them replaced + new plugs, all so fitted a new window motor, all covered under the warrenty + curtsy car for the day. happy now. the only reason i went to a ford dealer is i had the car serviced there 2 weeks ago and this problem started a week later. well happy with the 3 year warrenty cover, cost was Quote
34laxy Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 At what mileage are you folks replacing your Cat converters? I think the handbooks state 80K miles. Cheers, Quote
