Jimbo73 Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 My Gal seems to be running on 3 cylinders. I have changed the spark plugs as per the beginners guide (Ecellent work BTW), and this never cured the problem. The HT leads seemed to be a bit crusty, hard and my mate said I would change them as well. So I am getting them done tomorrow. The lead labelled C in this picture seems to be very britlle, and I would like to know what it is, and where does it go? Is it easy to change? http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...ost&id=2015 Is there any way to test which plug is not firing, and trace the problem back from there..... There was a smell of petrol when I had left the car running for about 5 minutes, could this be to do with the fuel not being burnt in the chamber? Also it was a bit smokey... Any help guys and gals is appreciated...... Ps. I am off work tomorrow and going to change the HT leads... Is it worth doing or should I hang on till I have tested out.... Quote
charles Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 C it the LT lead to the coil. Due to the heat of the cylinder head the PVC isolation cracks after a year of 7-8.I had the total wiring cable replaced. Quote
Jimbo73 Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 I have pinpointed it to the Coil Pack... These are the 2 black boxes that sit on top above the spark plugs... I swapped them round and unplugged HT leads...... COIL PACK 1 - PLUGS 2 & 3COIL PACK 2 - PLUGS 1 & 4 I unplugged the HT leads from coil pack 1 and there was no change, I then unplugged the HT leads from Coil pack 2 and the engine seemed to dim. I swapped the coil packs around and it was the other 2 plugs that dimmed the engine. So am guessing one of the packs has gone... 2 questions 1) Is this the coil pack http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/012-IGNITION-COIL-Fo...VQQcmdZViewItem 2) Would I of damaged the engine by unplugging these things? BTW is it worth replacing the 2 at the same time? Are they one goes then the other goes not long after.. Please Help... I am a desparate man... My wife and kids want to get out... Or is it I want to get them out.... LOL Quote

Jimbo73 Posted April 5, 2007 Author Report Posted April 5, 2007 Okay,,,,.,., Good news and Bad news.....,.,.,. Good news is; They are in and the car is working great.... No loss of power sounds like normal.......,., Bad news is; They are not genuine ford parts...,.,. They come in a moulded plastic unit, and are exactly the same in every single way as the ones I took out apart from there is no writing on the top of them to identify them.... Now is this a bad thing.,., Does anyone have any exeperience of parts like these...And is it worth getting 2 for 60 quid when a genuine one would of cost 80 quid (and that is for just one!!!!)..,.,., Any thoughts anyone...,.,.
