Footwell illumination is fitted as standard to the Ghia but not the Zetec or LX. Whilst delving into the depths of my footwell I found that the wired socket for the lamp was already in situ and it only required a 5 watt push fit wedge bulb fitting and 'then there was light'. The passenger side socket is also fitted. They are to the very outside end behind the lowermost plastic strip at the bottom of the dashboard and below the glove box. The plastic strip can be easily pulled out of its locating holes and this exposes the sockets that are facing away from you. They are a twist fit and easily removed to fit the bulbs. Cheap upgrade. Andy.

Hi,

I have just taken delivery of a new Cmax Titanic and have found it is a "misbuild". On the front passengers door there is no switch to operate the electric windows - just a blanking piece. The window does operate from the drivers side, so at least the motor is there!

Yesterday it went in to the Ford dealership in Essex (a clue to the name there) to fit a new switch - they have come back to say it needs a new wiring loom as there are no wires to the switch position.

I cannot believe that there are cmax looms that do not have the wires in place - if the "guys" below are lucky enough to have the wiring for their footwells and fog lights, how unlucky are we not to have the wiring.

Could someone please comment - I don't feel we can believe this PDI department - we are also worried about what else they could have forgotten to fit!!!!

Thanks

Michael.

Unfortunate Freudian slip but perhaps appropriate - your problem could even be the tip of the iceberg!

But seriously, I think you mean Titanium? Anyway, the decision about whether to have a "standard" loom with everything in place or different looms for different level cars is made by the designers based on cost. If it is cheaper to have the same loom (higher volume = cheaper unit cost) than to handle the complexity of fitting different looms at the factory then that's the option they'll go with.

Mis-builds happen (nobody's perfect) but I doubt that there would be any more errors on your car. After all, lightning doesn't strike twice (or does it?!!) :D

Isnt the Titanium the top model??Couldnt they just swap it for another?or offer you some sort of compensation?

did like the Titanic bit insider..brilliant.:D

Many thanks for your thoughts,

Titanic was said deliberately - I seem to be having a titanic battle trying to persuade the dealer that all new titanics aren't built like this!

I think persuading them to give me a different one is a pipe dream - perhaps in the West Midlands they believe in customer service - after being in yesterday and nothing being done except the door now rattles and the carpet is covered in mud, customer service is not something this dealer believes in !!!! I haven't even mentioned to you about the rear sensors that don't sense anything unless you ar 6 inches from the bumper - that is normal, so I am told!!

keep you all up to date with the next developments.

give them a week to come up with a decent course of action, then if they dont rectify the faults to the standard you want then reject the car under the sale of goods act etc etc.

Just a thought, does the sale of goods act apply to second hand cars.

Hi Michael,

looking at the Ford website all New C-max should come with electric front windows on both sides with the Titanium getting electric rears and global closing as well. This is the same for Mk1's with the Ghia getting the electric rears so, in theory, all models should have the wiring for the switches. On the subject of differing wiring looms, I looked into the feasability of adding the Ghia door mirrors, with indicators and puddle lights , to my Zetec but this would of required a new wiring loom and control modules to be fitted inside the doors.

IIRC the sensitivity of the reversing sensors is adjustable via Ford's equivalent of Vag-Com. Andy.

Hi All,

Just a quick post to let you know there will be a small!! break for 4 weeks while the wiring loom is sent from Germany.

At least it won't be down to the Dodge it and Bodge it (PDI) department to fit it!!!!

The service department will also have to find where the rattle from the passengers door (this has occured after the D & B dept had the door trim off) is coming from.

It's enough to send you away on a holiday. ;)

all the best

Michael.

Hi Everyone,

Just to give you an update on our misbuild! - we now have a switch on the passengers door that works the correct window- and no rattles from the door. That's the good news!!

The bad news is that the reversing sensors still don't detect shopping trolleys, 1 metre square concrete uprights in multistorey car parks or people walking very close behind the car. Tomorrow we are back to the dealers - we are thinking of getting the dealer principle to stand behind the car and get a technician to reverse blindfolded and only stop when the sensors operate -- do you think they will??

Next installment soon.

Michael.
