Guest toritwo Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Hi, I have a Sharan 1.9TDI 110bhp and when I turn on the air conditioning it is very smelly. I would like to drain the unit and replace the water? (if it uses water) but I am unable to locate the air con drain plug and refill point. If I do find the refill point, should I use dionised water? oioisavaloy Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Its not water its a GAS you would need to take the gas out under Vacum so that all the old gas is taken out checked for leake=s and replaced by new gas. To be honest you would be better getting it done by a professional. As for smell, this is a known problem you need to get a nice smelly can of something and spray it in the vents in the footwells that sould cure the problem for this summer at least. Regards :( Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 :( Toritwo don't mess with your Air Con, not only can you damage the system you can damage yourself. It is an Expert job and Isn't worth grief. As to the smell... what does it smell like? Is it a petrol smell, Exhaust fumes?, Musty?... Where are you in the uK? They do have drains valves... and these could be blocked.... I can talk you through that with ease. Could be a seal... also can be a residual amount of liquid that can't drain.... need to know the smell though... catch ya later... I've got a diagram also of the full system.... Quote
oioisavaloy Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Thinking about it chaps, I think I might get mine serviced before the nice two days of summer we normally have :-) Any ideas on price etc Shackers is the diagram you have from the TIS CD? if it isn't I would really like a copy i you wouldn't mind Regards :( Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Two things on my current Mondeo: The Pollen filter change was amended by Ford from 20000 miles to 10000 miles. TSB 1999 118 describes action to be taken if musty smell from A/C on range of Ford cars inc. Galaxy. Involves special fluid and process time. I had to have this done once on Mondeo....ir cured it. If that's your problem... Quote
dulux72 Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 I have a sharan with climate control. In the manual it advise that the ac is put on full blast for 3 mins every month to stop the bliud up of any smells Quote
Guest Martyn Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 I Got my 96 Galaxy A/C re-gassed at Carwoods (Midlands Area) for Quote
grifjl Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Halfords sell a can of anti-bacterial agent. You spray into A/C and leave for a certain time. Costs around Quote
Guest toritwo Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Thanks for the info on my smelly air con. I will clean the vents and perhaps anymore advice you can give Shackers, I would be grateful. I think I will leave taking it in to a shop as my brake servo has just failed, lots of hissing in the footwell. Took in to a friends garage and after some phone calls he suggested I take it to a VW garage/dealer. Took it to my local VW (NVWC) in Norwich and the servo has gone and will cost from 180.00 to 200.00 pounds just for the servo, then the fitting on top! Aparantly, fitting is no easy task so I am looking at a 400.00 - 500.00 pound bill, ouch! Quote
