Hi, Firstly thanks for the information on the aux heater. Ive been driving round with my portable smoke machine for a few weeks now. I read the articles, purchased the glow plug from the supplier in Birmingham, spent a couple of hours fitting and no more smoke. Result. But the day after the gearbox decided not to drive in reverse!!!

I have read through the postings but cannot find anything similar to my fault.

The car drives fine, although it has sometimes lost a bit of power. This is cured by switching off and on again and is then fine.

When you select reverse its as though you have selected neutral, All revs and no movement. The lever selects reverse no problem.

Any help would be greatfully received. I have noted the prices some people have been quoted for gearboxes, ouch!!

My money would be on a dodgy brake switch.

This can cause issues with the ECU causing loss of power and also I am sure I read somewhere that the Gal wont go into reverse or at least wont engage properly ) unless it is stationary.

A faulty brake switch may cause it to think it is moving.

Alternatively try holding the gearstick into various positions around the R position and see if reverse engages...could be a cable/linkage problem.

Thanks for reply

Tried brake switch and seems ok. Found two plugs under sump. One with nut and other with allen key. Both allow fluid out and i know the levels will be low?? Think there should be a tube behind one to get correct level but seems to be missing. Want to top up fluid but will have to drain all out and top up with correct amount. Some quote 7.5 litres others say 3.5?

Been told there is a reverse sensor in the gear box but unable to locate.

Need to do some more searching on the site and then back in the garage. Nice weather to be out!!
