Hi. Can anyone please help me by describing how I can get to the seat belt mechanism for the middle row passenger seat that is situated behind the drivers seat. It is jammed and will not automatically retract causing problems when the passenger gets out the car and slams the door! I have successfully managed to get to the drivers seat belt mechanism that jammed and have sorted that out but cannot see how to get access to the seat behind. I don't really want to start pulling stuff away without knowing what actually does move and what doesn't!

Sorry, should have said it's a Mk2, 2003 TDI Ghia.

What can sometimes happen is that the belt gets twisted between the reel and the pivot bracket. Pull the belt out to its full extent and see if the twist appears from where the belt emerges from the slot. If you find one you need to work it up with your fingers back through the pivot.

I haven't taken the seat out yet but when I do I still need to find out how to get to the mechanism behind the trim. I have checked that the belt is not twisted, the fault is definately with the automatic seat belt retraction mechanism. I found that some carefully placed WD40 did the trick on the front belt which had jammed the same way. Trouble is I cannot get to it.

Now this is a wild guess, but looking at mine which is a MKII, you going to have to dismantle some trim.Above the slot where the belt retracts back in is a screw, have you tried taking that out,?..the top of that trim in mine seems a wee tadge loose so it may come out...im thinking that you may have to push in the adjuster bit where you can alter the height of the belt....just a wild guess here so anything you do is on your own head.....but it is what i would try.

Sounds like you will have to get to the mechanism behind the quarter panels. I removed one of my panels just yesterday and it exposes both the middle and rear seat belt inertia reels.

There is a very detailed description of the removal process on topic 8129 - speaker replacement started by GeeMan on 23/4/06 but the detail and pictures are posted by NikpV.

Not sure if this work but this may be a link:- Click here!"]How to remove quarter panel[/topic]

I can say the removal description works - lets hope I can put it all back together!!!!! ;)

Good luck.

Doesn't work - sorry. You'll find the thread by searching "speaker replacement".

Perhaps a moderator can sort the link and tell me what I did wrong. ;)

Thanks.
