bigdaddy Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 hi guys, i had the classic ISV fault, took it off and gave it a clean, no change, so I took the plunge and bought a new one Quote
Andrew T Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Seems to be the season for this problem. Did you check for a good 12v feed to the ISV? Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 No, so I ran out and done it, yes 12.1v Quote
Andrew T Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 It does sound like the throttle body is a possibility then. When I did a search on it, the symptoms people were reporting were much the same as a stuck ISV causes. It doesn't look as easy to get off though. Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 Its not easy,,,,,way at the rear of the engine,,,,,i was going to remove the air filter pipe and squirt loads of carb cleaner in it,,,,,,,might fix it,,,,I am hoping its only gummed up,,,,,,,, Quote
Andrew T Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 There is a product you can buy to do this job, which is a sort of Mr Muscle for intake systems, unfortunately the name escapes me, (it's in one of my early posts but I don't seem to be able to search them anymore). It costs about Quote
buford_t_justice Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 that would be Ecotek Powerboost ! Quote
Andrew T Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 that would be Ecotek Powerboost ! 10/10! Quote
Dave-G Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I Googled that and found this:Â for TDI's Quote
buford_t_justice Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I Googled that and found this: for TDI's  looking at this link it says, "the PowerBoost can be applied directly into the inlet manifold at the connection where the rubber feed pipe from the intercooler joins the manifold." Does anybody happen to have a photo of where this location is because I can't find it for the life of me. Even a diagram if a photo isn't available. Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 (edited) Well its not the throttle body, took off, cleaned it, put back on, no change, but I did find no voltage at the cam sensor, could this cause bad idle Edited March 24, 2007 by bigdaddy Quote
Andrew T Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 When I had the Cam Position Sensor fail on a Vectra it put the Orange Engine fault light on, I take it yours is not on? I think maybe you need some diagnostics as your next step, a lot of back street garages now have this equipment, or possibly a fuel injection specialist may be of more help to you. I Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 27, 2007 Author Report Posted March 27, 2007 As far as I am aware, the mk1 gal does not have an engine light, never seen it light up with ign on,,,,,you are right though, time its time the expert had a look,,,,,,, Quote
