Hi guys, havin probs with my front wipers on my 96 tdi aspen,

ok heres the full description of the problem:

switch into position 1 they go at maximum speed (with engine running)

switch into position 1 they run at a normal speed (with engine off)

switch in position 2 they stop where ever they are on the windscreen

Push switch down and they go at top speed until you release and they stop where ever they are at that time

Rear wiper works fine as do both front and rear washers.

Looked through forums and there have been a few people with same problems, bt they never follow up with their solution.

So im thinking buy a 2nd hand complete motor assembly from local breakers and put it in, just looking for any advice on the matter before i go any further, Does it sound like a motor problem or switch related?

hey bige,

I cant help with your problem, but if you decided to go the replacement route, make sure you get the right one, there were a few different assemblies over mark 1 at least, that I know of .. what year car you got ?

(dont say 99 - apparently thats the toughest one)

altho it sounds like there is some weird electrical feed into the motor ??

just the motor right ?

Might be the whole motor soon if things dont start going right.

Well took the motor off this afternoon and put 12v across it and it works, so next thing il try tomo if i get time is testing the voltage coming through the connections, saw the stuff on here some where for voltages so will have to try and find it again and get my tester back.

Just out of interest would a later one fit (with the speed thingy attatched) or do i need to replace the module seperately on mine?

Any assistance appreciated with regards to wiring testing, one more thing, must be related as it was ok, electric windows were working fine, but the drivers side switch only operates in putting the passenger side window down, wont go back up or do anything with drivers window. So you ned to use passenger side window switch to put it back up, Any ideas again?

I'm sure I've read on this forum that there is a controller that works with the wiper motor, does the parking, time wipe, etc.

Is the controller you mean the box thing attatched to end of loom at the wiper motor?

Took that to bits and had a look inside, didnt look too bad nothing burnt out as far as i can see although only 2 out of 4 screws on the lid so makes me think someone has been at it before,

Dont know if this helps but my wife's focus had similar wiper problems.

They just stopped when turned off, didn't park and during intermittent would creep up the screen between wipes.

Went to ford and asked at the spares department it was a
