Hi all

After replacing the 'wear out ' drop links (susp. links behind each wheel) about 12 months ago (about 9k miles), I find they are banging away again over bumps. I will assume that I used cheap rubbish the last time. Not being one for off roading, all I can think is that my wider than standard alloy wheels (factory fitted) cause more pressure on this fragile part........

Can anyone give me a brand or source for this part that will last me longer ??

Just replaced drivers side yesterday, I fitted a genuine Fraud one about 6k ago on the same side....local speed bumps have wrecked it I guess. Got it from Fraud again @ the discounted price of

On my 1998 galaxy with 170,000 miles, my originals lasted 124,000 mles. yes I have had the car since new and do all my own servicing. I replaced them with ford originals at 124K which were different to the original ones on the car and replaced the osf one againat 150,000 miles. Not happy with the new Ford tem lasting only 26K, I bought a cheap one from e.bay and so problems as yet.

I'm on my third set at less than 40,000 miles. The present ones are from the local motor factors and they have creaked since they were a few weeks old. Sadly I don't have the money to change them again so until they start knocking or I inherit sufficient money to change the car, they will just have to keep creaking away

I suffered a similar spate of failures - IIRC I went through about four sets across about 15k miles :D I was tearing my hair out (metaphorically! I've too little left to waste on actually tearing it out!!). Anyway, it turned out the car had a worn steering arm ball-joint. Not detectable by me despite much shaking and pulling of the suspension, but it failed the MoT on it. I got it replaced, and the drop links have been fine ever since.

Could be worth a check...

Both sets of genuine Ford ones on my car failed within 20,000 miles each set, hence I tried the Factors for the third set - and these are not yet knocking but just creaking. There seems huge variability in the quality of the Ford ones, some get over 100,000 miles with no problems whereas others of us don't even get to 20,000 miles without the dreaded knocking
