Guest b_sharp Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Galaxy conked out last night - lost power & piles of smoke out the back. Garage says engine has siezed. think that something (!) in the engine hit the no. 3 injector which started the damage. Engine cannot be moved either way so suspect crankshaft is knackered. Any advice - attempt repair ? or recon engine ? or on a 1999 gal wih 120k (diesel) is it worth either ? Any recommendations for a source of reputable recon engines ? any ideas of engine and fitting cost ? cheers. Quote
gregers Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 sorry to hear of your woes b sharp, what has the garage suggested to you?then find out how much an engine might be from a scrappy. Quote
Guest b_sharp Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Hi all.Just bought a replacement engine from National engines (Ellesmere) for my 1.9TDi Galaxy 1999 in which the engine siezed. Checked and confirmed that engine was AFN for 110 bhp, yet engine has turned up today & garage says it is the wrong engine. Garage says this is an Audi engine - a front wheel drive engine, while the Gal is transverse. The supplier says it is a common engine - found in Passats / Sharans etc & HAS to be the same engine - 'how could it be the same code and the wrong engine'. Garage says it is a similar engine, but the mountings and fixings are different. The two parties will speak tomorrow, but it doesnt look good. Any of you experts any idea ? Advice please ? Quote

Some Audi engines are in-line FWD, some transverse FWD. It could be that the garage is right... The engine will be basically the same, but the mountings and so on are designed for an in-line application (like the A4 and A6) and so won't fit a transverse application? Quote
Guest b_sharp Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Yup. Looks like the engine I had delivered was out of an Audi A4 - in line, and the Gal of course is Transverse. No way the engine would fit into the Galaxy. Despite the engines being AFN code, they are not interchangeable. The engine has to come out of an Alhambra / Sharan etc. not a Passat etc. Be warned !! Guest b_sharp Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Further to the saga of my engine. Bought a second engine from ENGINES UK - in Liverpool. Stung me for 1k for an engine they would deliver overnight to be here on Monday. Monday came - no engine. EVENTUALLY managed to speak to somone on Tuesday, who informed me they had been wrong - they didn't have an AFN engine at all !!!! - so nothing was delivered, and no call was made. Now trying to get my grand back ! Once again - BE WARNED !!!!! Quote
Guest b_sharp Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Hi All. The saga of my engine continues. Just had a THIRD engine delivered for my 1999 TDi Gal Ghia which siezed 4 weeks ago, but it still seems to be the wrong engine. The supplier is adamant that he sent a Galaxy engine, but my garage says it's an Audi FWD again. The garage says the engine could be fitted, but it's all different - the sump is different etc. Could it be that the engine IS a Galaxy - just a later model ? or even the 90BHP ?? would these engines appear different to the original in the T reg I have ?? and yet be able to be fitted ?? The engine wasn't delivered with a Turbo etc, so we can't really identify what it is ! Anyone help ? Quote
