Guest dazza182 Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 I have recently acquired a 1998 Seat Alhambra 1.9 tdi, today I have drained the oil and changed the filter and refilled with castrol magnetec td. It will not now run right it winds before firing and when it runs its like an old tractor. Any suggestions would be greatly received. Quote
Dave-G Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) Yikes - I hope I'm wrong here... I suspect you have used the wrong oil and knacked the engine. Could you check the oil spec numbers on the magnatec can for me? it should be 505 01 The engine is known as a Pumpe Deuce (PD) type and is very oil specific to operate the fuel injectors. EDIT: I just noticed the 1998 bit... what bhp is it? Edited March 12, 2007 by Dave-G Quote
Dave-G Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) I done a quick search and it looks like I'm wrong on the date PD's came available. The oil should be ok. EDIT: Have you have overfilled it? Edited March 12, 2007 by Dave-G Quote
Guest dazza182 Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Thanks for the reply, I have not overfilled the engine its right on the max. I have just had a local mechanic look at it and he thinks it is internal damage. Its a complete mystery as to how an oil change can cause this. Anyone know of a good place for a second hand or recon engine? Quote
familyman Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Have you used the right oil filter ? if not the engine could have been starved of oil, regardless of the correct oil level . Quote
Guest dazza182 Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 The filter was supplied by local factors, its the same size and looks identical to the one removed. Quote
littledaz Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Check around your oil filter for any wiring that you may have trapped or damaged. I know the engine speed sensor is in that viscinity and I think the wire runs close to the oil filter. Just a thought  Quote
