JohnR Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 My Gal was due its 100K service. The previous owner had always taken it to Fords in Taunton but the local Ford dealerships in the area where I live (Cheltenham and Gloucester) do not inspire confidence and I had heard numerous horror stories from their customers. So, keen to get the service stamp in the handbook, I shunned doing it myself and went to the local VW dealership (although vag-com'd it and checked for majors in advance). I was very impressed and they welcomed me to the VW fold with open arms! The 100K service was Quote
tim-spam Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Sometimes a good idea to get a VW serviced by a VW agent... Quote
adrianf. Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Ive also heard a couple of dodgy stories about the Glos Ford myself when i lived in the FOD so never bothered using them.Ive decided not to keep the service book stamped up anymore and to do it myself.Ive enough knowhow to do the service items myself and save a few Quote
morticiaskeeper Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 There's a VW specialist in Stonehouse that's got a good reputation. Just behind the Texaco (was BP) station in the high street. In the same building as Stonehouse Autoparts. Quote

Dave-G Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 hello every 1 ,just a short note on my fuel consumption ,i have an 04 1.9 tdi zetec,27,000 in good nick,i filled up before i set off to disneyland paris in manchester using the "burping technique" and after 1,188 miles the fuel buzzer sounded on saturday morning whilst taking my daughter dancing, how chuffed am i! my gal is due soon and was a bit worried about this issue but i think im gonna go to my local vw dealer soon, youve just help make up my mind I'd keep using the same dealer if I was getting that sort of mpg chum, VW might want to correct it. Now what excactly is the burping technique please? Quote
Guest wolfie Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Now what excactly is the burping technique please? it's where you use the fuel pump nozzle to trip the breather in the filler pipe to allow the trapped fumes out and then fill the space with fuel! it's ok if your going to start using the extra fuel straight away, especially in hotter weather as you now have no expansion room in the tank! so the excess fuel is forced up and out the breather pipes! and all over the road! ;) Quote
Dave-G Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Ar - thanks wolfie, I knew about the vent but the phrase "burping technique" is new to me. I must use it somewhere to be all modern sounding - innit ;) Quote
