Whats That Noise?

Can anyone tell me, what is the noise coming from under the offside rear passenger door(underneath the car). When I check it out, it looks and sounds and smells like a domestic oil burner. I think there is a nozzle, of sorts, blowing air onto the exhaust? Only seems to come on in cold weather? :lol:
