Guest b_sharp Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 The other day, our brake lights stopped working (not the bulbs). A day later, the engine management light / glow plug light came on and won't go out. I was thinking they were unconnected, but looking round the forum, I'm thinking there might be a connection (no pun intended). I won't be taking it to a ford dealer as the manual suggests, but any advice much appreciated. Quote

The brake pedal switch has two distinct switches on operates the brake light system through the ECU and the other indicates to the ECU a confirmation that the brakes have been applied. If either of these fail (very common on the Gal) then the resultant ECU confusion will illumate the MIL and subsequently the engine will go into limp home mode. Replacing the switch is very simple and can be carried out with minimal tools (screwdriver and torch IIRC). Quote

There doesn't seem to be any degrading of the engine performance - but I reckon I'll change the switch. This is found above the pedals ? Quote
