tbag Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Hi all,My traction control light keeps coming on, usually first thing in the morning but when i switch off it goes off. Then it comes on and stays on.Last night i took off the batt earth lead and the light is still there this morn.Any Ideas anybody please. Tbag. Quote
Guest wolfie Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 the TCS light is illuminating to tell you of a fault in the system! most likely a sensor fault? the ABS wheel sensors are used for the TCS system, does the ABS still work? are you sure it's the TCS light and not the ABS light? switch off (if possible?) the TCS to check? when the TCS is switched off the warning light should come on and stay on till you switch the system back on or switch off the ignition Quote
tbag Posted March 6, 2007 Author Report Posted March 6, 2007 Hi wolfie,Im sure its theTCS not ABS,Its been getting worse over the last 2or3 weeks.I have sprayed the connectors and all the sensor rings appear to be in tact. This morning i turned ignition on and off three times also ESP switch but the light is still on.Is it ok to drive? or do i need to get it checked out before i go on holiday.Cheers,T BAG Quote
tim-spam Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 The first port of call should be a VAGCOM test - this will show any fault codes logged in the ECU, and should point you in the right direction. Quote
tbag Posted March 6, 2007 Author Report Posted March 6, 2007 Only just got my, er i mean our lap-top.Will have to wait a while before i get cable and software. Cheers anyway Quote
MrT Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 On my Galaxy where I have Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as opposed to traction control, when I had a new but faulty MAF sensor, when this gave an odd reading and triggered the engine management warning light, put the auto box in 4th and the ESP warning would come on as well (I posted on this here around 3rd week in November 2006). The reason for the ESP warning coming on due to a MAF fault was never really understood by me. VAG COM will help you pinpoint what casued the problem Quote
Andrew T Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 As an aside to this, and the strange things traction control systems can do, a friend took his 2.2 Zafira to the experts at local tyre depot for new front tyres. On the way home the car misfired and refused to go above 40 MPH. Baffled but unable to understand how changing the tyres would cause a misfire he took it to the Vauxhall dealer who read the fault code, and then checked the new tyres, which were the wrong profile! The different sizes were causing the TC system to read a speed imbalance between the front and rear wheels and set the TCS working. Needless to say with the correct tyres fitted it ran fine. Quote
tbag Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 Cheers guys,Looks like i will have to find funds for VAG.COM,All tyres are dunlops,newish,10,000 miles.Nearside front is wearing on edge but thats all. Funny thing is the light went out yesterday only to come back on after a couple of miles. It was still on after taking off batt leads,Engine light went out thank goodness. T bag Quote
