mumof4 Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 umm...in regards to antifreeze,...when i did my course..My tutor said never to mix colours..i.e.put a different colour in to what you have in already...But i know some peeps in here say that you can,But i know i will only top mine up with the same pink colour that is already in it...thats just me. mikej Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 I would never mix antifreeze myself and if i am not mistaken the difference in colour usually means life span ie the pink stuff is long life 4-5 yrs compared to the 2 year span of the blue i think but this is changing all the time with service intervals now upto 30k on some cars. bigdaddy Posted March 5, 2007 Author Report Posted March 5, 2007 Hi guys, so as long as I don't mix colours I can stick any type of antifreeze in the gal, just need to sort the rad, i have some radweld in it at the mo, but in the long term it needs replaced,,,,,,cheers Quote
tiny Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 The Pink type antifreeze is G12 spec and must not be mixed with any other types. The blue and green varieties are G11 (monoethylene glycol) and should be ok to mix Never mix G11 with G12 as there is a chemical reaction that causes foaming in the header tank. G12 (IIRC) is the spec for all VW engines from 1999 onwards. Some people have said they cause a gel to form but I personally think that is just a 'net rumour. As for the radiator, have you tried an excnange unit? Serck Marston is the company I ussually deal with and it seems every rad ive had from them is around the Quote
